Atomic Hawx 90's. It was time to retire the old Langes. Merry Christmas to me, from me...with the wife's permission. Going to demo skis next weekend.

Apparently my feet suck because they are hard to find boots for (narrow, long, flat feet).

Nice. I was all ready to buy myself new skis, but with my collarbone down, I'm going to miss most of the time I could be skiing, so I'll pass now.

What skis are you looking at?

First skis I'm going to try are Atomic Blackeyes. I'm sporting a 5-6 year old pair of SX 11's right now.

Nice!
I'm in new gear mode too. I've been demo'ing skis and think I'm in love with some Volkl Mantras. I tried a big fat Gotma (?) this morning (cause you know, we had lots of fresh powdah!) and didn't like it so much. Then something else which I didn't like at all. I went back to the Mantras and was all like "shoosh ... .shoooooosssshhhh ... shooosh ...." just like that. :D

Over the years I have ridden most of the big brands (Rossi, Salomon, Atomic, K2, Fischer). A few years ago I bought a pair of the Volkl Karma's and I was instantly hooked. Volkl is in my opinion the brand to buy if you are a strong skier who is not afraid of some speed.

The Mantra is a great ski, my brother owns a pair and I have skied a few days on them. If it's a day or two after a storm this is a perfect choice. Big, stiff and can still carve a turn when needed.

I own a pair of Gotamas and they kill the soft stuff, but they are HUGE so if it's not a pure pow day leave em' at home. PS You have to be prepared to go fast, that's where these skis really shine.

For an every day ski I would go for the Kendo as they are a little smaller than the Mantra. One of my friends just got a pair and loves them. If you like the new school rocker design there is also the new Bridge.

Beyond the performance these skis are tough! I have a habit of breaking skies one way or another and my Karma's are the only planks to have lasted me 5+ seasons (they are now rock skis). Just last month I tore a huge core shot out of them. It was underfoot and against the edge. This would have blown out the side wall of a lesser ski but not a Volkl.

Well, turns out the boots i bought for the gf weren't the right size, so had to send them back this morning...

I found this package for her. I think she'll love it for backcountry/tele skiing
