Hey guys, i was reading an article on TAOM the other day about how to winterize your car/house and was wondering what tips you had on winterizing your MTB..maintenance tips etc to make sure the good old girl makes it through the crappy weather with her dignity and her looks...

I do not make any changes as far as the bike is concerned...just ride and a thorough once over after every ride. My pack will see a few new items though...folding solar blanket, beanie, and a bit more food than I would pack in the summer...all just in case I wad up and become seriously injured.

If you're riding trails, you can use a thicker chain lube, since the things are usually wetter. Thicker, deeper tire tread is also helpful. If you're rockin a road bike, a more viscous lube in the shifters and housing can be helpful when things really get chilly.

None of this applies to snowy areas.
Lube all around should be lower viscosity, to account for the temperature-related thickening of fluids.
In deep snow or mud you want skinny tires that will dig to solid earth. Unless you're in the tundra and you have a puglsy with 4" tires. In that case you can shoot the moon and try to float on it.
