Tektro Novela brake help

First, make sure everything looks like it should (sounds simple, but even after years of experience, you'd be amazed at the little things that trip you up cause you overlook them). Check ferrules, housing and the lever.

Next, get over the caliper and watch the pistons as you pull the lever. Pay attention to each moving piece. That may shed some light. If not, you'll at least have more info for the next post and maybe someone can help you.

I had the same problem over the weekend with the rear Tektro Novela brake failing. The brake failed about 15 miles into an off road ride through a lot of thick gloopy mud...not sure if that contributed to the failure?
When I got home and cleaned the bike I looked at the brake. When pulling the cable the pad moves inwards towards the disk at a slight angle but then clicks and the pad /piston snaps back. I took the brakes apart to clean out as best a could and refitted them which temporarily cures the problem but the it soon returns. I couldn't take the brake housing unit totally apart as the bolts are in too tight and WD40 had no effect on loosening them u

Anyone managed to find a fix yet or do I need to buy a new rear brake?

The back brakes arent working anymore, they click, as if the are pulling to far, and then the calipers dont even move. They start working after i mess with them a little, but eventually stop working. Cant figure out how to explain whats happening, hoping someone else has had a similar issue and knows a fix!

any questions, ask, just trying to get this bike working again.

dont try skuffing cuz it wont work just tryed and they went out compleatley and im going to try to get them to ware higher on the rotor and if it works ill let u kno

i have a pair of Tektro Novelas as well my problem is a tad different...

How do I make my brakes so when I apply them they stop faster.. Right now I pull the levers darn near to the handle bar and it just starts to stop....Both brakes are like this...

Looks like a pretty straight forward design to me (Simmilar to BB7). Make sure the cable isn't slipping at the caliper and that no housing is being crushed, compressed, or slipping off the cable stops anywhere between the lever or the caliper. If it's a full suspension bike, make sure that the housing is cut long enough that it makes firm contact with the cable stops throughout the length of the travel.

As for the thick goopy mud deal... if you are riding in mud that is so hard core and sloppy that it's jamming up your brakes I'd reevaluate the conditions that you ride in.

More tension on cable. Either by loosening the barrel adjusters at the lever, or by pulling the cable tighter at the caliper.

Be sure to also move the stationary(inside) pad towards the rotor as well by turning the 5mm set screw on the backside of the caliper clockwise.

Until the pad is almost touching but still has a tiny gap.

I've had exactly the same problem with the clicking. its been happening for about 2 months now. every time i think I've fixed it, it brakes again. i'm trying to see if the problem is in the housing but cant take it apart :L. should i try and get it sorted on the warranty or just get new brakes. I've got them on a gt chucker and am short of money (are there any cheapish hydraulics that can be used as replacements).

the problem involves the drive screw attached to the lever, you got lots of mud/sand/dirt in your drive screw and it stripped out after excessive unlubricated/abrasive use. you will need to buy a whole new caliper. i recommend rebuilding every 500 miles to check the threads, use a heavy water resistant wheel bearing grease to increase life. i hope this helps many people. the clicking is caused by the threads slipping on the inside of the caliper, which is threaded like a nut
