What's the deal with the sizing of THE One Helmets; do they make one size helmets and then put different size padding kits in them? Or are the helmets different sizes? As well, are different size padding kits needed to make for a snug fit? I'm looking at getting a medium (58-59 cm) but would I need size large pads for it? If it helps any, my current helmet is a medium Remedy, which is a snug fit. Thanks in advance.

the THE fits a touch loser, but the padding is firmer. I used to have a med remedy and now I have a med THE.

Interesting. I've heard complaints that the THE's mouth guard is really, really close to your face. Thoughts?

It's closer on a D2 and definitely closer on a O'Neal/Azonic Fury or 661 Strike.
I can put three fingers between mouth gard and my chin. Absolutely enough to EAT a lot of dirt when it's muddy. :)

yup, one shell fits all but with a different pad kit - the XS is so rediculous because of this that I struggle to believe it's not dangerous!

You only need one size pads depending on what size you want. If you tried to put L and M in i'd guess (if you could somehow fix them together) you'd end up with something tiny.

I've been using a medium for a couple of years now - nice n snug and no issues at all with the mouth piece feeling too close

Im over here now
dont know if theyve changed in the past two years, but the "XL" i bought was unbelievably small. the mouth piece did sit on my mouth and looked so sketchy on me. my XL/XXL D2 fits awesome though w/ plenty of clearance in the mouth area

im right at the high range of size small. at first it fit pretty tight, but once the pads settled in, fits perfect.
I'm at the small range of a small and it fits perfect at first, but once the pads settle it's a touch loose.
I was thinking of trying the XS, but maybe not now. It's crazy hard to find good looking small helmets.

I have been following this thread since I am concidering ordering a THE this week. This is just the information I am looking for and I hope you guys can help. I also have to ship lids in from CRC to Korea and try them out, crap way of doing things. Most shops in the UK dont stock much so its still is a case of posting testing and return, only difference is its much cheaper than returning from Korea.

I have a big heed but I think also an odd shape pip. The only helmets that feel good from my testing are Giro Remedy and Bell Drop. I tried an Oneal at Fort William and it was incredible but CRC dont stock them. POC, 661 dont fit at all. I noticed my Remedy was actually very lose and a really bad fit so before visiting Fort William last year I bought a xl/xxl D2 and a L THE. The D2 was a snug fit but the mouth guard was very close. The THE helmet wasnt a comfortable fit at the back of my head which is the usual problem, not as bad as the 661 etc. I see there is a xl THE and I am thinking of trying one out. The funny thing is I tried a friends new D2 carbon and it was alot bigger the the previous D2 model I tried. It seems Troy Lee have changed the shell. The fit is much loser and the mouth guard is further away. I would have to say it feels too lose and more like my Remedy. Fortunatley I shipped the helmets in the UK for the visit and returned them before leaving so not much loss.

Do you guys have any feed back based on the above? I hope to order a XL THE on sale at CRC this week but obviously would like to get it right first time to avoid returning costs.

I bought new pads for the Remedy since I wanted to help have a back up set for when I washed the first pad set. I noticed the fit was alot better and probably why I bought it in the first place. It started to get loser again and I decided to put thin High density foam inserts on the inside of the shell. This has made a huge difference and with goggles I find the helmet pretty much stays in place. Finding the right helmet is a nightmare but the most important piece of kit, wish there a nice way of doing it.
