How remote are we talking?
Not particularly, but I wouldn't want to walk out. Probably never more than a couple of hundred km's from civilisation but mostly helicopter stuff with no roads.

Its in the water catchment area south of Sydney, based at Avon dam at Bargo anytime there is a fire somewhere in any water catchment area we get to go and put it out.

I got a phone call an hour ago offering me a position on a seasonal remote area fire team. Gonna get my winch on. So stoked right now.
Change of plans, just got a permanent positions with our Parks service. Pros, work for them for the rest of my life it I want, still get to do do firefighting in summer and the like. Cons, don't get to play with helicopters this summer as much.

Overall Pretty happy with the outcome.

Went to a small brush fire with my Volunteer brigade on New Years Eve. Small fire burning through coastal scrub and weeds towards some sand mining infrastructure. Not very notable although I did get to drive the truck for a 20 minute response through heavyish traffic which was fun and we did actually go in and attack the fire rather than being defensive and waiting for it to come out.

Few guys standing around

Me on the left, was the other guys first fire so he was quite excited and we had to pose for photos

Me at the end half way through saying something, hence the stupid look on my face.

Otherwise, I also get to do wildfire stuff with my job, our light fire units are based on the new V8 Landcrusier. Very basic vehicle but will go nearly anywhere.

Stolen car, bad driver. tried to elude me after i turned around on him and flipped into a pole taking out the neighborhood power with it, the exploding transformer made him easy to find ;) he was stumbling around outside of the car when i got there ...somehow lived and crawled out. criminals have the survivability of cockroaches sometimes.

another one:

don't separate the seeds from your weed with YOUR ID card and leave it on the table when you run out the back door 'cause the po-po are knocking on your door

just saw this since straya bumped the thread..

Thats crazy. I'd be embarrassed too if the cops caught me with weed that nasty, but not embarrassed enough to flip my car into a telephone pole.

I don't smoke, but I guarantee you'll only find the kind bud on my side of town.

I've been an EMT with a off road race team for the past year, it keeps me busy on race weekends. I've recently begun applying for ambulance positions and for local wildland hand crews. I already have all my Paramedic school prereqs done and plan on working for a few years before I apply. My eventual goal is EMT>Paramedic>FD.
