Problem with Codes

So I got a new set of Code brakes for my Demo; 203mm front, 185mm rear. They are broken in, and I hate them. For as good as I've heard these brakes are supposed to be, I just don't like them. The problem is that there's ZERO modulation, they are either on or off. A few buddies wanted to give my bike the old "parking lot test", and they all had the same feelings about the brakes.

So, is anybody else having this problem? Also, what can I do to fix this, or do I just have to go the route of another brake? Somebody said get the Code R lever body, but I don't know how that would fix the problem. I think I'll just have to get a new set of brakes, but if there's something I can do that's cheaper.....:thumb:

Thanks in advance to all the monkeys!

Never had a break with more modulation personally. Sounds more like something to do with the set up. I find my elixers on my AM bike much more on/off as you described. Maybe try giving them a bleed. Or perhaps hit up a shop to have a look at them.

Are you coming off of an older set of DH brakes with significantly less power?

I felt the same way the first time I rode new Saints or Elixirs coming from older saints and juicy's but you really might just need to get used to it. Think about it, if you're expecting a way less grabby brake its going to take some time to adjust your muscle memory to squeezing much more lightly.

Just a thought.

I have some and I feel the same way. I tried messing around with all the adjustments and it didn't seem to do anything for the grabby feeling. The only thing I have noticed is that it isn't as noticeable when riding and I think that is because they are starting to fade a little, but that could be wrong.

Valid thought, but that's not the case. I do all the work on all my bikes, and I know the difference between coming off older brakes that need a bleed, and brand spanking new brakes that have clean oil in them. These Codes definitely have more power to them than any other brakes I've ever owned, it's just the lack of modulation that bums me out. Like I said, at least three other guys were bouncing around on my bike this past weekend, and they all said how they didn't like the brakes for the same reason as me. One had Saints, one had Juicys, and I can't remember what the third guy had. The brakes ARE broken in, so I dunno, maybe that's just how they are???

Thanks for your input, guys!:thumb:

I was going to put on some organic pads for better modulation, as I'm using the stock pads. I checked the SRAM site, and they state the stock pads are, in fact, organic.
pretty sure the stock pads are the organic compound. Organic gives a lot more initial "bite" compared to metalic.

try metalic pads. they should be less "grippy" at ambient temp than organics. They will also fade less.
You know, I guess I should have thought of doing that to begin with. Sometimes, the most obvious answer is the simplest one. I'll give that a try, and report back after my Santa Barbara trip. Thanks kids!
