Goggles with glasses

I've been trying to get some good goggles to fit on my full face and over my glasses for racing. So far, I'm not really having much luck. The usual effect is some really shaky vision that makes me feel like I'm riding in an earthquake.
I know that both Oakley and Scott have their 'OTG' lines, but I don't want to waste the extra cash on something that may not work.

Appreciate any advice form fellow riders with glasses...

Oakley L-frames worked well for me. Honestly, just get contacts. It'll enhance your riding SO much more and glasses under goggles just get totally beaten up no matter how careful you are.

I was thinking of getting contacts but I am afraid of them sliding where they don't belong while riding

Smith makes a great prescription insert for their goggles that have had nothing but good reviews on their snow/ski line.

They don't slide off unless you are getting the old hard contact lenses. I use daily disposables soft contact lenses and never had a problem wearing contacts while riding. I only wear contacts when going for a ride though.

Have you ever tried riding without goggles and just glasses. At first I tried with the OTG goggles and they didn't work well. Then I tried contacts, made my eyes all weird. Now I ride with just glasses. A lot easier than dealing with goggles and contacts.

Which model of oakley frame do you have, they work with a standard pro-vue insert? Please let me know ASAP.
All I did was remove my pro view insert and trimmed the excess plastic they are splice snow goggles but you can do it to any of them. The oakley insert is nice but is more like glasses. Which freaks me out in a big crass that's why I like the pro views. The trimmed insert is wide from the pro views since they use older style smith goggles for there system and fit snug.

I have some OTG's, they work fine.:thumb:
The only issue is on really slow sections my glasses tend to fog up a wee bit, but that might just be me being fat and unfit and sweating too much!

i know a few guys riding with adidas goggles with clip-in in the winter snowboard and in the summer bikes. They are more then happy with these goggles. They are a bit pricey, but if you don't want to use contact lenses, these are a solution for both: winter and summer:thumb:

Ah, and they fit really well in the helmet and are big enough for square heads like me;)

OK, can I get this straight.

I can get this guy (http://www.pro-vue.com) to make me "prescription inserts" and then I can insert it into any compatible goggle? Is there a list of compatible goggles?

thanks!

Well I can't wear contacs, and I can't afford the inserts. But there is alot of good info in here. I've been think about trying to 'custom' fit a shield from a street helmet, that might work, but I'd probably go thruogh 3-4 by the time I get it right.
I've also been thinking about just getting some 'race only' glasses that hug my face better. I can use my insurance for that.

I've never had a problem with them sliding around. I wear glasses most of the time but I switch to contacts for sports (biking, snowboarding, skiing, wakeboarding, whatever). It's kind of a nuisance to put them in and take them out, but as soon as they're in, I can forget about them. I just wear regular goggles over them.

I've ridden MX for years and DH for the past year with Scott OTG goggles and glasses. Mine haven't been beat up and it's your least expensive option. I've had the same glasses for 4-5 years. Only scratch are from me dropping them in gravel one time. Contacts are your best bet if you want to pay the price. If I remember correctly, they won't sell them to you unless you have had an exam within the past 12 months. Glasses obviously don't have that problem.

The eye exam is pretty much a moot point. Most places don't charge for an exam if you are getting new glasses or contacts.

Just get OTG goggles if you really want goggles. I just wear glasses and my full face/regular helmet. I have had fancy high-end perscription-insert goggles in the past and they were not worth it. They fogged up like a MOFO and there just wasn't any real benefit. You can get OTG goggles at an MX store for ~30-35, compared to 200+ for perscription-insert goggles.

If you can do contacts, that's another possibly good route.

i wear contacts. I like them a lot better than glasses. i dont even have glasses anymore. one thing about contacts is that they can get uncomfortable when it gets dusty out. some lens solution every now and then can help. still way better than glasses though. wish lasiks wasnt so god damned expensive.
