The current budget cuts proposed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection call for eliminating the Office of Greenways and Trails and closing 53 state parks, including the San Felasco State Preserve (Home of the Tour de Felasco), and Big Shoals in White Springs (Home of the Ididaride).

More information including a full list Representative e-mails is listed here.

Remember: What hurts one group of riders can hurt all others. It may be Florida parks this time but it could be your parks next time.

Note: I wasn't sure where to post advocacy issues. That's where I put it here.

God forbid we should have to pay a few bucks in state taxes. (NO state taxes here.)

I hate this idiot thief the rednecks and old people voted in. Christ.

Isn't the slogan for the state parks something like "visit the real florida" to get tourists beyond disney world? So pathetic...

I'll point this out.

When the parks close, do the trails get erased?

Or just the other users who require things like parking?

See how it works out well for mountain bikers, who can park down the street and ride to the park?

Many florida parks are in areas the developers are drooling over. You bet the current governor would give them dibs.
I suppose that's the difference between the Foreclosure and the Hippie State.

Our parks, if they were to close, would just become illegal pot farms.

especially considering there are a few counties in florida that are developed to capacity. if you wanna build something new, you have to tear something else down first.

Absolutely f*cking disgusting. Our natural landscape is what makes Florida... Florida. Something needs to happen, soon. This cannot go through.

Over there somewhere.
Our former governor, John Corzine(democrat) threatened to do the same when he didn't get his way of upping toll fees. Get organized, write your congressmen about this and get the advocacy groups involved(not just the bike groups, hiker and equestrian.)

This does suck bad but cuts do need to be made. I can guarantee that this is not the only area that will be cut. Our politicians have been spending to their hearts content for decades and the time has nearly come to pay the piper.

Whorida. Been in Florida for 9 months (2 months spent in SF), and I have yet to see any mountains to ride. I only road bike and golf in the swamp.

Yes.

From this point of view, it does sound like that guy is making a political threat. I say we crucify him.

Go back to Arkansas if you can't be bothered to find places to ride with elevation change. Granted we don't have mountains but it's f*cking FLORIDA, what do you expect? We make due with what we have, which doesn't seem like will be much after this whole ordeal is over with...
