My boss just resigned. My bosses boss, doesn't like me, as my performance was sub-par while I was going through all my medical issues right after I started.

I'm not one to pull the blue card, so I won't touch it, but this is not necessarily a good thing...

remember that PM you sent me asking my opinion about next steps? the one I never replied to? I would take this as a sign that the timing is prudent

Do you own weapons? It might be time to clean them.

I wouldn't worry if your boss's boss doesn't like you. If he had a problem with you he probably would have done something by now. You should worry whether or not your new boss likes you. I've seen a lot of people get steamrolled when a re-org put them under someone who didn't like them.

Not so much.

I've already hit the phones and got my feelers out. I just need to think about covering my bases. Now I just to make the hard decisions about what I really want to do...

Obviously it would be stupid to quit before you have anything else lined up, or before they axe you.

What if that is all water under the bridge to him now and he has no issues with you?
What if you quit, cant get unemployment (which is small but still nice) and can't find a new gig?

Ride it out.
I was in the same spot 2 years ago. Came back from a 3 week paternity leave to find out my boss and about a dozen others got laid off. Tough to look your best when your schedule is erratic due to young kids.
Worked out though.

You should probably offer to car pool with him. Who doesn't like a 4am Tokyo Drift with their subordinate for some good male bonding time.

If that doesn't work, start moving his desk one inch at a time. When he notices, say nothing. As an apology, gift wrap his desk. If that doesn't work, put your desk on top of his desk and tell him you made him a mega desk.

What are you talking about? He's gone. He left yesterday when he resigned...

The 'Eat what you kill!' mentality sure evaporated fast.
Suck it up and perform or get canned. You wouldn't have it any other way if somebody else was in your position.
