I have a bit of tinnitus in my right ear as a result of playing guitar in a few bands that didn't have a proper PA. I had my 100watt Super Lead half stack stage right going full bore most of the time and now late at night: (eeeennnnn) is what I get on that side.

I just try to remove myself from high decibel situations as much as possible and it seems to improve a bit. I don't play as much as I used to and when I do I wear -30db plugs or leaf-blower earmuffs over the plugs like Brad Delson from Linkin Park. If my friends want to go to one of those "Night at The Roxbury" clubs (usually because the chicks they like go there) I'll wear plugs too... and wish I was at an Ozzy concert. :)

EDIT: A more useful answer to your question: I just remembered that Jeff Beck nearly deafened himself after borrowing Slash's rig for a gig in the UK a few years ago. He blew out his ears SO horribly that he got up in the middle of the night after the gig and had to go to the hospital. Audiologists made a custom hearing aid for him that actually CANCELED out the tinnitus frequency that he was hearing... VERY cool.

Splat, have you been diagnosed by a doctor? I thought I had tinnitus from working around loud machinery, had ear ringing and a bit of hearing loss. A few months ago I started falling down a lot even when I wasn't drinking. Turns out I have Meniere's Disease. Basically too much pressure in the inner ear from fluid build up, causes ringing and loss of balance. I have been able to manage it fairly well by eating a low sodium diet.

I got tinnitus after an sinus infection/allergies. all my sinuses are still messed up and inflamed, but i'm on a waiting list for surgery (go canada) and once they fix all that i'm hoping it will go away.

If it's not directly from noise damage you might have something similar. have you contacted an ENT?

Whenever i get sick or my sinuses get more inflamed (head cold, etc) it gets a little louder. Might be worth looking into what's going on in your nose.

Also, i wear these when i go to shows/clubs/loud places http://earlove.net/

Good luck, tinnitus is ****ty!

My dad has it to the point that he cant hear out of his left side at all. Has had it since I can remember... Never says anything about it, just part of life for him.

I don't think there is anything that can be done about it.

Maybe that's what's going on here?

Sorry couldn't resist... cant they relieve the pressure somehow? Tubes, or some shlt?

i have a high-pitched whine that follows me everywhere i go, and it's most noticeable at night when i'm trying to get to sleep. not sure what can be done about it.

:stupid:

when it acts up (worse than usual) I want to stab myself in the ear with a fork! It is maddening! I have a special set of earplugs that has slowed the effects of its progression, but at this point nothing that I know of (or nothing that the audiologist could suggest) can be done to combat the current ringing.

good luck splat!

When I have gone to the firing range and not properly worn hearing protection. For the next month or so my ringing gets really loud. Problem is with hearing protection on the ringing gets louder and is enough of a distraction that my aim is off. I miss going to the range. I like to hear more though...

Because I also do have issues with my Nose Nasal Polyps. My Allergist and PCP believe it is from Build up of Nasal Fluids , maybe even from the prolonged use of all the decongestants I use. so I am suppose to go see this Special ENT guy who deals Primary with Allergy related ENT issues.

Have you had your blood pressure checked recently? I had tinnitus bad for years, when I started taking meds for high blood pressure it dissapeared completely. It's a common sympton of people with high blood pressure. While I was suffering with it I found that the more I focused on it the worst it got. Try having a radio on softly with talk shows and it may help you fall asleep. Good luck my friend

don't make me kick your ass
I've had a ringing in my ears for years, mostly due to playing in bands and running a sound board for several years. I mostly only notice it when it is dead quiet, and it gets worse when I've done something stupid like not wear my hearing protection on noisy jobs or after listening to live music.

I posted this not , to see if there was a solution , I know there really isn't one. I was more curious to see how many others actually have the same issue. the more I talk to people about it , the more I find lots and lots of people have it. and I see here is no exceptions
