Cheers Sandwich, I've anti seize ordered now. Seems like the best to use alright.

I'm 5'10" on a small Sunday and the wheelbase at 44.25" can get a bit hairy on faster sections..anyone used the head angle cups to rake out the front on their Sundays?
does it lengthen the bike much?

not yet....i'll be grabbing an angleset and going 1.0 pretty soon though, but I'm 5'11" on a medium.

FYI don't waste your time with the "safer" paint stripper. I bought some of that crap to use to try and finish the strip on my frame, it didn't work at all. Says "safe for indoor use" on the front, then "don't use in basements on the back". bleh. I'll be going back to the high test once it's warm and dry enough to do it outside...plus I can post-strip rinse with the hose.

relax mate (your riding and worrying), I'm very slightly taller than you and on a small too, mine's 64.5 without slack cups and wheelbase is 44.75.. did you actually measure your OWN bike or are you just worrying that the manufacturers quoted numbers (which incedently aren't correct) don't stack up against all the Ridemonkey internet pinners?

This is a touch off subject but for those of you guys still rocking the Sunday I figured you might have a good idea on what a used one should go for.

I'm interested in a friends '07 Elite. The Elite in '07 was made in the US, it will come with a DHX5.0 coil, CaneCreek headset, SDG I-beam seat/post.
The paint looks brand new, there are no dents, bearings are in prime condition, shock is in good working order, headset bearings are smooth, saddle has no rips/tears, none of the bolts have sharp interfaces(not rounded out).
The bike was originally purchased by a friend in 2007/2008, he rode it for a year in the Expert/SemiPro class(prior to the change). He's always taken very good care of his gear. He got a sponsorship deal and sold the frame to another friend.
He races my class Cat 2 and takes really good care of his gear. He also rides DH 1-2 weekends per year.

I would say the condition of the bike is a 9 out of a possible 10.
$750 should be a reasonable price for a 4 year old frame right?

I think I paid a little less than that for my 08 WC. Supposedly it has the lighter tubing but yeah whatever. The shock was in OK condition, one headset bearing new, one blow out. I would say $750 is fair, but you may want to factor in new bearings into the cost of the frame. My bike felt fine until I really took it apart, then I could see just how bad things were. I'm psyched to get it back together when I can actually feel some suppleness.

Otherwise I'd say you're good to go.

I'm still out with a broken back/pinched sciatic nerve/torn meniscus so I have plenty of time to get new bearings in.
I'll order a set as you mentioned just to ensure everything is in prime condition anyway. I'll put an Angleset in a cart @ QBP at the same time and probably some Camber cranks.
I think I'll go the route you did and strip the frame raw, polish it up and maybe paint the swing arm and the tops of the seat tube webbing black.

I first installed a -1 degree and then a -2 degree headset cup, and it lengthened my bike by .5" and 1", respectively. Now, with the -2 cups in, my large has a 47.25" wheelbase. This is a good thing IMO, particularly if you regularly ride steep stuff. Don't hesitate... just get the cups.

Not stressin at all, havn't measured the WB but it just feels loose and not planted at high speed.
I'm not trying to get the perfect internet angels, infact i haven't a clue of even my HA but i know how it feels sometimes and wouldn't mind trying something different.

Help! LBS just effed my DW link trying to get the shock pin out. They used some kind of hex to bash it out, and scored it up pretty bad. Obviously, I'm very pleased... not.

I am aware of the Bos Stoy links (sourced from Pearce cycles here: http://www.pearcecycles.co.uk/product/1106. But as I'd prefer not to shell out that kinda $$, does anyone know where to source these from? Or anyone have one for sale? My frame is an 08 factory (the black link).

I've used the licycleworx.com site before. Last summer I ordered the compression for the lower shock mount from them. I ordered by phone, smooth transaction.

Looks like a decent deal if the service is smooth. Im not sure if they use secure billing on the web so I would order by phone. That being said Im thinking I need to get that dw link for my rc4 project.

hi guys... just found the IH sunday topic on Ridemonkey
i use to post on a french forum as i am ... french

i own a 2009 sunday elite with a RS vivid on it... and i m now working on tuning the shock shimstack for the frame and my riding style ... does anyone on here has done that already in order to share our knowledge?

At the risk of going over very familiar ground...:

I have a 2005 Sunday and the shock is goosed. I don't want to service the unit as its too damaged to be cost effective.

So, I gather, I either need to buy a more recent lower DW link plate or find a shock that fits the present - any suggestions for either, given that the 5th element shocks (the only ones that are said to fit) aren't made anymore....

My suggestion would be to contact avalanche downhill racing and seeing if they'll tune your shock for you. They replaced the position sensitive valving with the same shim stack in their high end dampers...and it costs less than it would to buy a non-tuned shock and unobtanium DW link....

Just a thought. The first page will show what shocks are compatible with your link.

Hey though ti would ask a question on the IH sunday,I have an option to buy a 2008,would it be worht it? or am I going to be chasing my tail in the long run trying to find parts if I need to replace them.
lookin to change the rear shock to a roco WC or canecreek.

so many threads on this...

sunday is still a good bike. geo is a bit dated, but an angleset or reducer cups solves that problem. Aftermarket parts are readily available through multiple suppliers.

I would advise against a CC, as I hear they are too linear of a shock and a better fit is the PUSH tuned DHX, RC4, or similar. The shock needs a custom tune as the sunday has an almost regressive shock rate that makes it blow through its travel.

It takes a 9.5x3.0.

I wouldn't bother with anything else as it will change the sag point (and thus pedalling characteristics) and will make it way too low. If you want it slacker just use angled reducer cups.

Hi there,

I wonder if someone here can help me out. I'd need the upper and lower shock mount shaft for my '09 Sunday as a spare part, as especially the lower one isn't in the best condition anymore.
However, I wanted to order those parts at Pearcecycles' but it seems that the lower one isn't available any more.
Has anyone an idea where I could get one (in Europe)?

If you didn't already, try calling them just to make sure that they don't have it. I ordered a full hardware kit for my sunday from them about 6 weeks ago and they had it then. If they don't any more then they may be able to tell you where you might find it.

I have 2 Sunday frames and a complete (almost - missing lower shock pin) 2008 linkage and rebuild kit in the classifieds. Package deals available.

Is there supposed to be a spacer between the bearing and the bearing coverplate/bolt on the seatstay of the 08 sunday?

I don't think so...doesn't look like it from the schematic and I don't remember seeing one on mine. Bolt, cover, bearing, eyelet, threads into plate, IIRC

Udi, I remember a while ago you showed us your mod with the O-rings around the extended inner races of the rearward dw link bearings. What size (ish) diameter were they? I'm gonna go down to the hardware store and see if they have any but i'd rather not have to take my bike apart to get a bearing out to measure it!

The bolt is sitting on a bearing cap, could it be that the bearing is the wrong dimension. That its not wide enough, if you know what i mean?

i'm guessing the shoulder isn't wide enough, but I'm not sure I can tell without it sitting in front of me. Is the bolt appropriately cinched down, ie long enough with no clearance issues? Is the bearing fully seated?

I measured everything and every part seems to be the correct size, i think the problem is that there is a new rear triangle fitted because the front and rear triangle have different serial numbers.

OK, I'm really at a loss. I'm unaware of any specification changes between years. I know that, when stripped, my front and rear triangles look VERY different, so I'm assuming there's some kind of difference in allow between them...suggesting that even though they may have come from the same family, they may have different baby daddies.

I can't really be of any more use until I get my ride back together, which might be a while. I have to order up some new bearings myself...and bolts...and a bar...and the angleset...and....

Is there a Vector file or a PDF of something for the IronHorse Sunday Decals found on these frames:




I'm also very interested in a file that has the skull with dollar sign eye sockets found on my 2007 Sunday Elite.

I'm having the frame painted by a friend and would love to get some new decals made up or ordered asap. My frame should be ready in 2 weeks time and my bearings will be here today. I'm looking to apply decals after paint and maybe prior to a clear coat.

Is anyone here running an RC4?
I'm tempted to try out a more progressive shock in the back, after riding a TR450 (with an RC4) that felt a lot better through square edged hits than my bike.

Curious what people think of the RC4 compared to other shocks they have run in the Sunday. I'm thinking of jumping on an 11' 40 and maybe it'd go well with the shock.

There was a link to those style decals online a few pages back, and I've seen a bike with them used (from that website) and it looked exactly like factory. Sorry I don't have it handy but it's here somewhere, think they're offered in a few colours.

Udi which shock are you running at the moment? Cane creek or bos? It seems the cane creeks aren't progressive enough for these frames, im guessing due to the thinner piston meaning less air spring effect like you (i think) mentioned earlier in this thread, and the fact that the cane creeks aren't specifically valved/tuned for a particular frame?
at the beginning of april i might be lucky enough to have enough funds to upgrade my rear shock, and im weighing it up between the cane creek and the bos.
rc4 sounds interesting though, reckon you would have to dremel away much at a bos dw link?
