A large number of you East Coast folks on here may remember Ryan ripping it up in Juniors back around 2002-2004 seasons.

He was a super humble and talented kid racing for the Bliss Team with Jade Jenny and Jason Memmelaar on some sweet Yeti Dh bikes.

Ryan hasn't raced in a few years as he focused on skiing professionally but was still an avid rider, and trail builder here in VT.

Sadly he passed away earlier this week after a skiing accident. He was one of those people who was liked by everyone that he would meet and made friends wherever he would go. His passion for life was contagious to those around him, and he spent everyday doing what he loved... Always with a huge smile on his face.

He is one of those rare people who never said a bad thing about anyone and could energize any room he walked into. He will be missed by a lot of people.

I just heard about this on the Mad River Glen site and was searching old results to see if it was the same young ripper I met years ago. I only met him once and his name stuck in my head....he obviously made a great impression for me to still remember him years later.
RIP Ryan....

This is very sad news. I remember meeting Ryan back at my first DS race at Sugarbush - had to have been 2000/01 at the end of the Trail 66 series. He was ripping it on a K2 Zero G DH bike I believe. He was very talented and a pleasure to have met.

RIP

terrible news. my condolences to the hawks family.

Ryan was one of the nicest and most genuine people ive met. This world could use more people with his same enthusiasm and passion.

I have not seen Ryan in a really long time. I remember him being a great kid a awesome bike rider and a phenomenal athlete. He always had a huge smile and seemed to be having a great time.

I was going to compete on the Freeride World Tour this year until my work schedule became a bit less flexible. Instead I have been keeping up with things through his facebook updates. I had been looking forward to meeting up with him again and making a few turns in the pow.

My thoughts and prayers are with him, his family, and friends. Rest in Peace Ryan, keep on shredding up there!
