We are all so lucky. We only have so many riders in the sport and we must
keep the race dates off each other, or we will end up like the cross-country
races. More events every weekend and everyone suffers. Promoters and
riders get short changed. Lets keep the communication alive.

Thank you to all involved

Any planned changes to the course or will it be the same classic Massanutten?
We worked hard last year to fix drainage and it was dusty.

We have a few tricks up our sleeve for 2011.
We may use a few banks on the road.

On a side note:
I enjoy keeping the runs the same each year for comparing times, but
we may remove the uphill pedal section 15% into the run and keep it on
the road. The next turn will suffer, but maybe we can get up on the bank
to create some flow and knock down speed before the long singletrack.

We have some SK8 ramps stashed with the YEE-HA! IN MIND. The
placement is below the final rock garden & prior to the finish line.

We will check it out soon and start digging as needed. The course came
around last year after the spring blowout the year prior. We have drainage
in place in all the barrell turns now.

We will send out pictures and Video pre-race weekend.

Just curious.....are there any waterpark discounts for YEE-HA racers? Planning on bringing the whole family this year.

Thanks in advance for any info!

Ask us for coupon during registration. It will work for the racers
immediate family of 4. Thanks for asking and racing with us.;)

We have made good on this the last couple of years.

Any other ideas you or anyone might suggest?
Step up jump on the right hand bank on the final fire road instead of wasting all that steep elevation on gravel. Come out of the woods onto the gravel, and maybe 40-50 yards down the road, pop us back up onto the bank on the right with a step up, then back down the bank and let us then scream into the final woods from there.

Always bummed to tuck on fire road with all that elevation loss. :D

I love the Mass race, and any discussion about eliminating uphill sections is usually welcome. That being said, I don't know if getting rid of that uphill after the flat road section is the way to go. It seems like it kinda sucks right as you enter back into the woods, but not for too long IMO. If the alternative is just circumventing that section via the road, I would think it creates a long road stretch in which you'll be mashing the pedals pretty hard anyway. I actually like the section that bombs back towards the road crossing, as it can get kinda testy in that last corner. Just my two pesos tho - I hope to be there enjoying the event regardless.

that uphill isn't that fun but as soon as it drops again it's awesome. maybe a steeper shorter off-camber section from the road back onto the course right where is begins to drop down

When you come off that fireroad, that little uphill is like what 4 or 5 pedal strokes. Easily worth it for the next section that comes up.
Do people really complain about that?
Always should make a wings maxi that fits securely in moto shorts.

I have to agree. The next section with the big right hand sweeper is well worth the small uphill. Cutting that section out would make a pretty long and boring fire road sprint.

I agree, but folks mention it on ridemonkey.

Thanks for chiming in.;)

The track had more uphill in the early days but we benched and improved
the area 4 years ago.
I will look at the whole course this year and try to make it better as
we always do.

Keep that upper section George the road is worse than that little rise ain't nothing but, a man and boy separater. Adding a jump or two would make it good to go.

Thanks for all the great suggestions.
It is hard to change it, but I am proud of the fact Chris Scott & our Mountainbike Director
Ken Hess built a track that has withstood the test of time. (I cut the trees for the final rock garden & claimed no more turns.)
We have a nice sustainable trail, & the World cup folks removed the upper rock garden. The pros of 97 turned left under the fast line.
The UCI folks would not chance the first drop or the off camber rocks.

Congrats on riding a better track than the World Cup year.
Greg Herbold was the course tester and rode it the way we race it.

I rode a fully rigid Dual Slalom bike down with Greg. When we got to the
bottom he could not belive I was within eyesight. Great Memories.

I agree to keeping the small uphill area but the last fire road does seem like a waste of elevation.
On the riders right is a very steep bank. The left side of the road drops into a gulley.
The major problem is a buried power line on the steep bank.
That is the deal breaker, but we will beat around on the bank one
more time and see if we can figure something out.

Wish the Radar machine worked perfect for every rider. We could give prizes
for fastest on the road. It was a cool idea that our mountain bike director suggested.

I'm with Jackalope. I'd leave the top section alone. If you're on the pedals going in from the road you might have a few strokes over the roots and that's about it. If you want it faster fill in some of those roots or create a smoother line there somehow. But I'd leave it as is.
