I have had profile cranks on my DH Canfield for the past 3 seasons - wanted to switch it up a bit for the new season and my new 2010 Jedi

Any suggestions??

Find a deal on RF Atlas. Right now it might be easier. I doubt you will kill them unless you want to take them off often. If not try the new gravity lights for us and post a review here ;)

i'm going to throw in a curve ball here: e13
I went with the e13 due to the Silly super thick saint tabs. I want to run a bash, and despite being a huge hack, have never had an issue with them bending/breaking, so not sure WTF is up Shimano's skirt and ruining guide compatibility. (Or they could follow the now defunct RaceFace replacebale tab design, but that would make too much sense - just make it heavier and incompatible, super!)

That and all the cool kids are doing it.

I went with Profile but I wish I had gone with the Saints, Light(ish) bulletproof rep even on forums and if you have ISC mounts why would the thick tabs be worth a mention, 165mm Saints FTW!

the e13s are light and that spindle design is brilliant, if i didn't already have perfectly good SLXs i would pick some up

light, strong and proven - Saint
very light and cheap - Descendant
lighter than Saint, but with some issues in the past - wait for new FSA Graviti Lights 2012
lighter than Saint, but from non existing company - go for Atlas
...and so on ;)

Because the tabs are thickened to reinforce against impacts, but thereby making the crank incompatible with ALL bash based guides. You'd better like Taco style guides..

One has nil to do with the other.

165 ADK's FTW. Saints on the old bike bore me. ;)

ya, so on the internet; 9x4 is 13.

back to the op's post:

i really like the e13 spindle interface, but i dont think it warrants the large price tag. i think descendants are the cranks this year
230$ (worst case 280) for cranks is steep? I'm not sure you're shopping properly...

Only apparent downside is sharp edges that could eat your sneakers. Otherwise Pimpalicious!

saint.

I love hearing people complain about the tabs. If they were narrower, people would complain about them being narrow.

About two years on east coast rox with an LG1+, 36t, sunday low BB, saint cranks, and zero problems.

if you like the bash guard, you can run them, but it's less than e13's ideal.

If they were narrower they would not require a special bashguard for bash guides. People would not complain at all. Now there is a reason to complain and that is why I didnt get saints.

if they were narrower they wouldn't have solved the problem of ring tabs bending.

Could they have done it a different way? sure. Could they have included some kind of adapter or other solution? yeah. Did they succeed in creating what is probably the strongest and stiffest crank you can get on a bike, and likely the last one you'll ever buy unless you're more concerned about weight? Very likely.

Never hard of bash tabs bending. If the tabs were normal Id get the saints because I can get them cheaper than RF but when I was on the market for cranks no one offered special bash guards for saint and with my rock slide bias I wanted a full bash.

Saint.

But seriously, raceface atlas's can probably be had pretty cheap in the next few days, e13, while unproven in the crank market, has a long history of putting out quality products and I'd trust their cranks, and the descendents will probably work fine. I'd go with whatever you think looks the coolest/prettiest.

Kind of a fun choice really, I don't think you can go wrong with what's been mentioned on here, not to mention, you'll probably shed some weight. Lets see some pics of what you get!
