There are some good prices to be had for some RS Boxxers so I wanted to get some information. I have heard the RS forks require more maintenance and are lighter but that is about all I know

So I am wondering what Boxxer is comparable to the 40? If it came down to having to buy a WC I would stay with Fox as the prices are better for the FOX

I see allot of people running the Boxxer team but don't see that fork anymore being produced as 2011

2011 boxxers are supposed to have better valving and damping then previous years and as far as reliability my 2010 WC has been solid....I slapped a Avy cart in it almost a year ago so damping has been flawless and no issues at all as far as reliability.
The new fox stuff is amazing as well but with the prices I see the new boxxers at its kind of enticing....

Either way if you buy right you cant go wrong you can move it for what you paid and move on if not happy or slap a cart in it and be done.... So my vote goes to try something new and make sure you buy right (price wise).....

but isnt a boxxer with a elka/avi cart expensiver then a fox?
depends Ive seen the boxxer (new ones) for sale for $500 avy cart $299 and adapter $89.so for less than $900 you have a top tier fork. Its open bath, hydraulic bottom out and mid speed valve to avoid diving in corners or braking, completely tuneable as well as damn near maintenance free... Ive been beating on mine then cameron (loaned it to him) beat on it for a couple months. Im back to beating on it... Still running its original oil for over a year and smoother now than before...

LOL which means I should probably change the oil and add slick honey to the lowers tomorrow... Hadnt even thought about it...

And its lighter than mine was stock plus feels better, the new carts (avy) are lighter than mine as well...:(

Don't beat yourself over a couple of grams Travis. Your bikes are light enough anyway ;)

Boxxer + Avy is a great choice imho. The 2010+ chasis is very good and avy internals rock and you get that open back no maintanance goodness. It's really a no brainer for me.

If you were to leave it stock, I would say the 2010 Boxxer Team or 2011 Boxxer R2C2 is comparable to the 40 RC2. IE both are hi/lo speed compression adjustable, coil spring, rebound adjustable, etc..

Im not, lol it is lighter and I think its great Craig went and found anf fat on the cart (mainly top caps and some little spots) and reduced it a bit more...

And yeah Captainspauldin is right stock to stock they are pretty on par... Both quality and both worth it....

If you race I would stay with fox just for the sake of their awesome race support. This weekend at the PRGT I blew up my 07 40 and snapped the spring in it and they hooked me up with new spring, seals, and an upside down 2011 damping cartridge...for free!

why not a 2010 Race with a aftermarket cartridge?
Exactly. Get it cheap and gut it.....I think everyone at one point should custom tune their suspension to them and the bike if its an option..tuned suspension is one of the most solid things we can do with a good set of tires being right there as well..

At the races fox support is awesome when you have to send it in not so much...they slayed it at nationals here a few years ago and hooked up racers then when they needed stuff repaired not at the races it was a grip......

Rockshoxs cs has been top notch off the race scene as well.... definently taking care of their customers... so youcant discount them based on that....

I just spend 3 days on the the 2011 WC (completely stock) and it is a big improvement in small bump compliance over a stock 2010. I'll still be trying some custom tuning, but most will be completely happy with a stock 2011 that is properly lubed. :thumb:

I would recommend buying a Race and dropping the Avy cartridge in it.Just so happens I have a Boxxer Avy cartridge that I am selling if anyone is interested.Yes I loved it,it felt amazing but I am a big guy 220lbs and have destroyed my 2010 Boxxers.I have bought a 40 and when the Avy cartridge is ready for the 40's I will buy one.

The big change was to the rebound piston assembly. I think this will be upgradeable for a reasonable price.
Scott, who should I contact to check about this? I did see an instructional video about how to identify if you have the old or new rebound assembly, but I'm not sure how I'd go about getting the new cartridge... Somehow I don't think my LBS will have a clue...

Thankfully no issues I weigh 235....beat the hell out of it so far and still going strong... good chasis.....

It should also be noted that 2010 and 2011 dampers must be upgraded in pairs. You have to buy the 2011 compression damper as well as the rebound damper. 2011 rebound damper alone will not fit with 2010 compression damper.

The 888888 wont need anything. No cartridge, no service, no need to buy it... pure awesome.

I'm on a 2010 Boxxer and I am over 200 in all my gear. I don't really have all that many complaints. The ones I do have are mostly attributable to my own lack of skill at setting it up. A friend just switched from a 40 to a Boxxer WC and is not going back. I think a Boxxer chassis/Avy cart setup would be outstanding.

FYI... avy is working on a cart for the 40...

note to self: email craig again asking for ETA
Never understood why people would want an avy40s. Why not sell it and go with a boxxer/marz combo. The chasis is imho better.

As for marz - anyone seen their last dirt interview. Was it only me or do they again hint something new for 2012 or 2013 (cant remember) and hint shivers in the future?

Fork geometry, appearance, quality of Fox products could be some reasons.
And maybe some people already have a Fox fork... ;)
Fork lowers dont differentiate in quality outside of aestitic reasons so much. Quality of fox products = damping and with avy you kinda take that out. Fork geometry I understand but still the fox chasis is heavier than both marz and boxxer (even old marz but they had more oil) and none of them need more stiffness.
As for having a fox - selling a fox and buying a boxxer race cheap is much easier than waiting. It could also be profitable as kids love fox40s and after that 2010 flop they think that boxxers never work ;)

The Fox products, I have owned or seen, never had such build quality/tolerance issues like the 35mm Boxxers had. But on the other hand I never liked the standard damping setups on Fox stuff. Idk...

There were two different 2010 rebound assemblies, but both are different than the 2011.

If you have a 2010 fork it will have one of the two 2010 rebound assemblies. There is the original 2010 that often had stiction issues and the revised 2010 that came with a different seal head assembly and was very smooth in performance.

To tell the difference:
1. Remove the lowers
2. Turn the fork upside down
3. If the red seal head on the damper side is smooth it is an original
4. If the red seal head has a machined groove it is the replacement.

If you have the older 2010 seal head you will want to test it for stiction. Just cycle the rebound damper with the lowers removed. If it is smooth then it is good. If it feels notchy then ask for a free replacement.

The 2011 has a different rebound damping piston that is supposed to move more freely over chatter. I have not seen the 2011 rebound assembly available yet.
