Cdn nationals are the same weekend as Crankworx Whistler, nice scheduling guys , way to sink the national series
Weren't canadian nats the same weekend before, like 2 yrs ago or so?
Where are they this time?

Be a shame if USAC put the US Nats the same weekend as CW, but that would never happen.

I really hate to start rumors, but this is what the email said:

"Good Morning,
As of this time Windham Mountain will not be hosting the bike races in July.
The Winwood Inn and Condos"

Let's hope the Winwood Inn doesn't know what they're talking about.

I have heard the same from others as well that they received their security deposit back on lodging with a similar note.

Does not look good, but then again we went through this last year and it did happen, and it appeared it went really well.

Who steps up to host in it's place?? Whiteface?? Back to Bromont???

Windham started returning deposits on rooms a few weeks ago. No one mentioned it because we didn't want to send out bad vibes.

I have a feeling I may be heading 4 hours north instead of 1 hour south the second week in July..

And let the Whistler rumours begin a new! ;)

Seems like it's gone a bit far though if the hotels have been notified and are actually returning deposits? That didn't happen last year.

Nick Bove, race organizer for the Windham WC, has confirmed this morning that the event is still on and has not been cancelled.

I sure hope it stays this way. Had an absolute blast last year. Was really looking forward to it this year.
Agreed! 2 weeks back out East was going to be the highlight of the year for me...until crankworx.

A couple of people I know, myself included, have sent messages to the uci over the last few weeks regarding any schedule changes due to booking travel. No word back though, which is a bit disconcerting. It's usually a pretty quick yes or no.

I wonder what is going on down in Windham prompting hotels to return deposits??

Deiter,
:thumb:That is Great News !!!! :thumb: Is the Citizen's Race on for 2011?

Can't figure out why the mountain is returning room/condo deposits though.
Agreed on all accounts. That's about the LAST thing i'd expect hotels to do? Normally you'd get the, oh sorry, not our problem, thanks for the deposit though!

Maybe they have decided they don't want MTBers staying there???

that part doesn't really come as much of a shocker to me, they spent a BUTTLOAD on their course last year.
Yeah the course was nice and incorporated mtb and bmx elements with nice big jumps.

Such a shame. I'd really like to be positive about the state of 4x at the World Cup level, but the future seems to get darker each year. At least it's booming in Europe.

it was definitely a really cool course. it was super neat to see how they used trailers and had the xc course go through them, while on top it was a 4x jump. The race was super exciting. Definitely bummed they're not doing it this year.

Windham to again host International Mountain Bike World Cup
Monday, April 18, 2011 at 02:53PM
Top cyclists from across the globe to compete in Greene County in July

Windham, N.Y. - For the second year in a row, the world’s best professional mountain bikers will converge on Windham Mountain as the resort town hosts the seventh in a series of 10 World Cup events held all over the globe. The 2011 edition of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano will get under way in less than a week with the first round in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. The Windham event will take place from July 7 through July 10.

The World Cup circuit is a series of races in three different racing disciplines - cross-country (narrow, rocky paths through forests and streams), downhill (riders race the clock on treacherous descents) and "4-cross (4X)" (four riders at a time race a fast downhill course with jumps and banked corners). This year’s Windham World Cup will be a bit different than 2010’s in that there will be no 4-cross competition.

"Despite the success we achieved in 2010 with the 4-cross event, we had to make the difficult decision not to include it in this year’s schedule at Windham. Since our venue is a ski mountain, the course has to be dismantled for the ski season and completely rebuilt each year, making it too cost prohibitive to continue," said Race Director Nick Bove. "This decision will allow us to devote more resources, both financial and human, to the downhill and cross-country events, which promise to be even better than last year for both racers and spectators."

Windham organizers are also planning many community events again this year, including cross-country and downhill racing for all levels of ability, a block party and a concert, among other activities, to continue last year’s efforts to involve racers and spectators alike in celebrating the uniqueness of the Windham area.

"We received so much positive feedback last year about all of the community events we offered and we’re promising to deliver more fun activities for the entire family again in July," Bove said.

Windham is the seventh stop on a tour that also visits Pietermaritzburg, South Africa; Dalby Forest, Great Britain; Offenburg, Germany; Fort William, Great Britain; Leogang, Austria; Mt. Sainte-Anne, Canada; La Bress, France; Nove Mesto Na Morave, Czech Republic; and Val di Sole, Italy

Would be cool if they raced the WC track this year, but something tells me that won't happen...
definitely won't happen. though a few weeks after the UCI race last year, they did open for a weekend, and had the UCI track open. Still kicking myself for not being able to make that weekend.

Any word if they're gonna re-use any portions of last year's DH course?
