I loved slide 27. stand and pedal for the camera, qualify for finals by 0.3 secs.... lesson learned?

Looking forward to the big show...

edited to add: anyone see the triride video on Dirt? http://dirt.mpora.com/news/triridepietermaritzburg-practice-2011.html
the opening sequence has Ropelato washing out in that rock garden (after the wooden ramp). blows his tire off and cracks his edge rim (that's an expensive booboo)... looked gnarly as he ragdolled over the rocks too. he seems to have pretty crappy luck. hope he's ok.

I just noticed Kovarik wasn't on the list. I thought I had heard he was racing again this season? stikman, care to chime in?

and wtf is the deal with peat? get it together old man, some of us fans still want to see you on top of the podium, not lurking midpack.

and last but not least, holy sh1t at the time spread. Its less then 15 second difference between 1st and 50th. Talk about tight racing, I expect we will see alot of people with very different quali/race results, rain or shine. all it takes is a second and you're bumped 10 places. Is there like one line the entire way down the course?

Anyone notice that Gwin had the fastest first split time? Kinda cool/ exciting to see how he does this year!

the first split time is not in the area where this race is gonna be won...
Sorry, not what I'm saying- I think if he can beat the big boys down this section, that it bodes well for his season, that's all.

Sounds like it's going to take one of the big pedallers to win this one.

Good point, I am making my point based on the assumption that all of these guys want points and are giving it their best on the non-pedally section.

Guess we'll see!!!

0.03 or somewhere in that region.
On another note, although it has been pretty fashionable to hate on the track, especially on the internet and in interviews. I have been somewhat guilty of this myself. Most of the riders like and are enjoying the track, they are just dreading their upcoming race runs. There is plenty of good flow and some really fast big jumps both natural and man made. The speedtrack is basically at the bottom of a natural rough whooped out gully that the riders launch into at max speed, pretty full on.

And i kind of like how this race, like Canberra, has forced a bit of creative thinking outside the box. Tire technologies have been pushed forward because of races like this, as have different cuts. A lot of benefits will spring from this race that riders and engineers will take away and use later in the year. Sometimes it is good to put every aspect of a race and the preparation for it under a microscope.

Same goes for riders physiological preparations and rituals. Im sure we will be in for a great race tomorrow.

I know it makes your day brighter to hate on Evil at every chance, but the carbon bike is there http://www.ms-racing.at/mountainbikeworldcuppmb/

keep in mind there is only one in existence and it is a prototype for testing :thumb:
im sorry you got butt hurt on behalf of them, but there was no hate in the post.
if i wanted to hate, i would have asked how much longer customers have to wait to get their warranty replacements...or are they waiting for shipping labels for the bikes

i think its nice to see pedal sections. these people are suppose to be the cream of the crop and bicycle riding does involve pedaling.

They are going by UCI pt standings for the first race, I wrote 'series' instead of 'season.' Scott had/has the highest ranked team based on UCI pts. Presumably this is done because the ranking is based on the team riders own UCI pts and better reflects a teams initial standing when riders switch sponsors in the off-season and team rosters change (ie Chain Reaction team that won the series in 2010 does not have the same roster going into 2011). After the first race they base it on World Cup standings.

Hellafornia. Formerly stumptown.
Luke looked to be on the undead at the port angeles race.
I dunno if he's taking a chance riding it at uci races or not.

I think I can speak for alot of revolt owners waiting on frames that knowing well get carbon undead's I'm ok with waiting a bit. I don't race professionally so if I miss some races it's just gonna have to be that way.

If I want to see a race won by pedaling I'll watch XC. This is downhill, and I want to see the race won by balls to the wall skill.

is that a general statement about the tracks you would like to see? or is that a statement that PMB is NOT about skill? Cause I'm pretty sure I noticed all the guys who are regularly top 10 qualified *shocker alert* top 10 in this race too!
