For the Fanbois:

Well the folks at Specialized have surprised Sam Hill with his own signature version of his favorite tire.

A few of the guys stopped by our office and shared some interesting details about their new tires, development process and left us plenty of samples.

This year will offer several new tire options and they should keep riders of all disciplines pinned and stickin'.

Looks like the same tire as the Butcher DH but with some stripes and a signature.

My LBS told me Maxxis is making Specialized tires, any truth to that?
here we go again...lets start the e-speculation...Last I heard MaXXis head engineer left ( read was offered a bigger pay cheque ) for Specialized a few years back and quite possibly the tires are made in the same factory?? But NOT made by Maxxis.

Personally I had enough of the whole rainbow stripes on bikes and it kinda ruins it for me ( unless if these turn out to be 10x more durable than Minions and 5x grippier)...To me If you aint SamHill and have rainbows on your bike it could only mean 2 things :

A) you're a wannabe
B) you're gay ( no offense to gay people ,just joking )

Now , lets hope these are more than plain Butchers with rainbows stripes on them and I'd love to hear more about the specifics of the compound and such...

I think it's more of Sam asking Spec if he can ride a minion and Spec just goes and makes there own instead. And pretty sure Sam did all the prototype testing on this thing.

I've got a Sam Hill Iron Horse Hot Shoppe rainbow jersey if anyone wants to pay me a bazillion dollars for it. Wore it as a joke one time to the night DH at Fontana, NC. Only one buddy got the joke. The rest were just creeped out (moreso than usual). :D

I think the industry needs more branding like this. Marketing preys on people's ability to believe the hype. Some of us can see right through it, while others eat it all up. At the end of the day, if it sells more tires for Specialized then they have done there job right.

So there's nothing else to the equation besides SELL SELL SELL?

Man, that's like saying there's nothing to life but birth and death and everything in between is pointless.

Hype = lies. Using hype = being a liar.

And you're saying lying is good.

Which means you support a dishonest society.

Nice!

Is there a consenus (of any sort) that these are better tires....?..
Feels like a minion DHF for the most part, but breaks away later thanks to nicer / more aggressive cornering knobs.

Better is subjective, but I prefer them having had about 6 months on them. Of course, I prefer Hillbillies to pretty much anything else now.

(ya, ya I know. Mind out of the gutter.)

So there's nothing else to the equation besides SELL SELL SELL? For a for profit company, the answer is yes.

Man, that's like saying there's nothing to life but birth and death and everything in between is pointless. It might be. I haven't died yet so I am unsure if it is all a bunch of BS or there is a greater point to our existence on this planet. Camus could have been right.

Hype = lies. Using hype = being a liar. sounds about right

And you're saying lying is good. No but when your wife asks you if her ass looks fat in jeans, what do you say? Does she look great or do you tell her that her gunt has grown way too much over the last year and she should start shopping in the plus size section.

Which means you support a dishonest society. No but we sure live in one

Nice!

If some young grom feels that buying the Sam Hill signature edition tires is gonna help him blast that berm a bit harder or hit that rock section without using his brakes, then it is a great Idea. Placebo is awesome and it can help some people get to that next level. DC sells signature edtion shoes and just plain skate shoes. They are probably made in the same factory (in a 3rd world country) for the same price. Which one costs more and/or sells better.

I loved the Mario Cippolini signature edition tires I had on my fixie for a while - complete with stripes. They weren't any different than regular tires but they made me smile.

Those Morgan Hill guys know what they're doing. Some people will buy these with irony in mind, some will buy them as genuine fans, but regardless - people will buy them.

And I agree we need more fans who are not too cool and jaded.
