Aw man. I saw that bike too. Now I know why that cop car was there at the end of the day.

The guy built it up the week before and was super stoked. Thieves deserve a lifetime of sexual and mental abuse.

Thats one of my very good friends' bike. Like Commencal-guy said hes very passionate about the sport and is willing to help out anyone and everyone(hooked one of my friends up on a brand new frame for a dirt cheap price).

EDIT! From my buddys FB account.: Bike was recovered, by Mark & Josh at Highland....

That is the first I have heard of a stolen bike from HMBP. I am glad it was recovered. I hate thiefs. I especially hate bike thiefs.

This is also very telling about the people who own/work at Highland - they seemed to actively step in to help, and quickly. Makes me want to get up there to ride even more now!

I heard that Mark grabbed the sword, that is normally resevered for the awards banquet at the Claymore Challenge, chased the theif down the road before catching him. After the theives had been apprehended, court was held on the balcony overlooking the swamp. The theives plead their case but ultimately Mark gave the thumbs down sign and the guilty theives were beheaded, with the aforementioned sword, on the granite slabs below.

The heads were displayed, skewered on the sword, atop of Freebird for the remainder of the day to deter all future theives. ultimately, the heads were catapulted with a trebuchet into the swamp where they will rot for all eternity...true story.

Taken from VitalMTB's feed.:

from Highland Mountain...good to know they're keeping things tight!

Justice has been served! The first bike ever, in 5 years in business, was stolen from Highland on Sunday and in less then 24 hours, with thanks to some passionate Highland staff members and the Northfield Police Department the bike was recovered and the thief is facing some serious felony charges. Guess that’s what happens when you feel the need to steal a $7,000 one of a kind downhill bike.

Here a note from Darren Dodge, the owner of the bike:
I guess we all knew that Mark Hayes (owner of Highland) was not going to allow this to get by without exhausting every available avenue to recover my bike.

Unbeknownst to guests, the security and safety of everyone is top priority, from hidden security cameras which caught the suspect on tape in the act, to the amazing staff(Josh) that were diligent to catch the perp while off the park property and out in the community. Thanks to everyone, HMBP is, and will continue to be my 'home' bike park of choice.

this story makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Highland's Owner is a stand up guy, wished i lived closer so it can be my "home" mtn as well. :thumb:

I love riding at Diablo, but i'll bet if this happened there, you wouldn't get the same level of service/dedication/cooperation as the bike owner did here.

This really is an awesome story, obviously minus the stress on Darren. This speaks VOLUMES about Highland and it's staff, both in commitment and in preparedness.

I see this community collaborate in these instances, and this story is exemplary.

Hurrah, Huzzah, and boatloads of Kudos!

Sick bike too! (might be shinier than my own..derp!)

And my 'eyes are peeled' for that Izimu!
