I want to know what gearing you are running on you bikes.

Eg:
DH 36f 12/21r 6x1 (6 speed, 36 front ring, 12/21 rear cassette running 6 sprockets.

Same for your Trail bike too if you have one.

And how would you describe your tracks you ride? Alps / Whistler? style Canberra flat style?
Cheers,

DH(Sunday):
36t front
12-27t 9speed
I like to spin the cranks fast rather than push hard gears.
I ran a 38 for a while, but I really don't notice a loss going to the 36 as I prefer spinning quickly.

AM(6" travel Reign):
22/36 front
11-34t 9speed
Again, gotta keep it spinning quick, but being that it's used as a mini-dh and super-d bike I like the 36 on board.

Trail(4" travel Canaan & hardtail Prolite XC)
22/34 front
11-34t 9speed

Niner
32t front
11-36t rear

Trails are the tradition PNW. Fairly tight/technical. Lots of points where you have to be pedaling out of a corner to get up to speed again. There's not a ton of sitting wide open off the brakes for long periods.

Found out this bike pedaled way better than expected so I put a touch higher range so i can climb some stuff. I'm running x9 10 speed with e13 cranks and the straitline guide-imo the smoothest setup i've ever felt

Covert
34t front
11-36 10 speed
I wanted to get approx the range of a 36/26...so with the 10 speed and the huge range it comes out nearly with the 36/26 and 11-32 9 speed. I'm super stoked on the setup. I'm not feeling like i'm wanted for more uphill range. It's great

I wanted to go 1x6 but when i dialled in the limit screw far enough to stop it going over the easiest cog (i removed the 3 easiest as i never really use them and want to keep the derailleur away from spokes) it stopped the mech returning back to the smallest cog. Going to experiment with swapping out the 11t for the 20t so I can run the block in the middle of the hub body, which might allow me to get it to work as the mech wont have to return as far or be limited as much if that makes any sense.

I like the extra gears for a couple places where I have to pedal out of DH courses or trails. Its also nice to have at the top of the course for pedaling around before a run.

Trail (ASR 5)
32t 11-34t
Good for the all the climbing I have to do.

Pumptrack/slalom (raw jackal)

Works great for what I ride.

On Rune I realized how useless the large chainring is, I very rarely get to use the smallest sprocket even on the road.

DH - TR450 - 38t - 11/28 - Diablo, other east coast parks, west coast parks (Whistler). I didn't like sitting in 36-11 all the time, so am enjoying the extra teeth up front. I prefer being mid-cluster if possible: the drivetrain seems more efficient and smoother.

live in colorado. xc trails are generally steep up, high speed down. dh trails are generally high speed down, generally pedally and a bit flatter at the resorts, generally super steep and not pedally at the shuttles.

Slackened norco fluid (4" am): 34t/11-34t 9sp.

I ride in the pacific northwest with steep, tighter, techier trails. I like to mash a hard gear, but have to ride up or ride into most of the trails I've been into lately, so I've been running a bigger spread on my dh bike.

AM bike : 22/32t w/ an 11-32 cassette. I'm upgrading this bike completely to a new Reign with 10sp, and an 11-36 cassette, where I'll drop the granny ring. Around here, the trails are steep, techy climbs where granny is too slow, but I need just a gear or 2 smaller than my 32x32 now.

ALL my bikes have an 11-34 rear. Not every hill can be shuttled, and even some that can be will have some sort of little climb. Even at Mammoth you have to pedal some times to get from the lift to the start of the trail (dc-10 etc).

So front rings?

Trail= single 36 w/ 11-36 (10 spd)

XC= 42/28 w/ 11-32 (9 spd)

Ridden mostly in NorCal. No Alps (most DH stuff under 10 minutes) but steep long climbs, loamy drifty redwood trails, rough rocky loose chunder, pretty much everything but sustained wet.
