I picked up my new Butcher yesterday. XT build kit, RP23 shock, Fox 36 Talas 160 fork. I've only done one ride - but I LOVE this thing. My past few bikes have all been Kona's - and I have to say this bike kills by comparison. Compared to the Kona's, the Butcher pedals sooo much better - pedal bob is almost non-existent (especially with propedal turned on). The front end on this bike is very stable - and the Talas is awesome. I climbed the same long hill twice - once with the Talas at 160 and once at 120. Night and day. If you do long climbs, the adjustable travel up front is worth it. Shimano's new "dyna-sys" drivetrain is more than hype - i was clearly able to stay on my middle chainring longer on some of the climbs. The variable shock rate from the APP is very noticable - the bike eats up small/medium bumps, but doesn't feel too loose in bigger terrain.

On the negative - not sure I'm a fan of the Crank Bros 50/50 pedals I put on the bike. The stock tires are grippy, but not super fast (though they will probably be good in the winter). Getting the air valve cap off the Talas is kind of a pain (compared to the Float). The DT Swiss 350 hubs are very nice, but they have nothing on the Hadley's on my previous bike. The 160mm rotor in the back is a little wimpy - they should have gone 185/185 (but that's an easy fix).

Overall - really like it....

Here's a couple more shots out for a recent ride. This is a great trail bike - climbs really well (especially with the talas fork on the 120 setting).

a trick to get to the air valve on the talas is to lower the fork to the lower travel setting. this raises the valve. nice bike, i would like one of those i think. pivot height is about perfect for a single pivot.

how you liking your Butcher? its on my short list of new frames and seems to be great bike, especially at my price.
mine will have a similar suspension setup....how do you find it climbs after riding it some more.

I love this thing - climbs great. My previous bike was a Kona and it bobbed all over the place when you cranked on it - this one is rock solid on climbs. The suspension feels like a lot more than 6 inches. Great all around bike. I still need to get a dropper seat post, but otherwise no complaints at all.

Mine is an L and for me (6' tall) it's perfect. I def wouldn't go any smaller - could probably do an XL, but I think i'd feel a bit stretched...

Fun bike and decent price, that's for sure...

Anyone else with a butcher?

I'm 6'2" and haven't got a demo bike to ride.

6'2" on their website is the cut off point for L, and the start point for XL. How helpful! haha

So how tall are you?

Just measured myself as 6' 2.5" so I think XL would be the safe bet.

Shame there's no where near me with any L or XL demos.
im the same exact height really. i rode a Large SC with similar geometry and it felt way too cramped for me. didnt get to ride a L or XL Butcher though

got to spend a good bit of time on some SC bikes today. gotta say they really impressed me, a lot different from the older bikes i've ridden (heckler, bullit, gen 1 nomad etc). the butcher is a badass frame. no single pivot should climb that good AND descend as comfortably. you really cannot beat it for the price.

i'm 6'2" with a 30" inseam, and felt much more comfortable on the XL as opposed to the L frames. it really lets you stretch out. biggest thing i noticed about the butcher is it manualed A LOT easier than a nomad which i also got to ride in XL.
