Is the road really tricky or just crazy drivers?
Despite it's popularity, I don't care for that road at all. Skyline is amazingly beautiful but with no shoulder, you are vulnerable to the hundreds of Sunday drivers, Harley fags, and sprot bilers that cruise the road.
I would only go up there before 9am. Or I would just ride at Skeggs, the nicest trail system closest to SF.

It's an easy road with a 55mph speed limit, however the turns can and do have water, gravel and tree debris on them during our rainy season Nov-May so you really have to obey the yellow reduced speed caution signs and not speed on the straights or you end up on your roof or into a tree.
