Dented downtube or 85 bucks? Not that it will happen guaranteed, but it has happened. Just kinda weird to me that people would spend 3k on a frame but try to save 85 bucks. To each their own I guess

I've been using a decently thick carpet on the back of my chevy silverado for the past year and have never had an issue. Can fit 6 bikes over the tailgate no problem. Definitely won't bother putting my money into a Dakine or similar type tailgate pad for a while.

Well I've got a $700 rack :P. But If I didn't, I'd sure as f*ck not use the dakine pad or that shuttle-thingy. Those dakine pads have always underwhelmed me with their "padding". I'm 99% sure 1 or 2 thick blankets would be better and cheaper.

The shuttlepad is a lot thicker. The padding is easily 2-3 inches thick. Maybe the moving blankets I used to use sucked, but id have to buy a few hundred dollars worth of moving blankets to equal the thickness of the shuttlepad, lol

This is an average load of 12 (6 across the tailgate and 6 up above),can usually get 7 across the tailgate if they're DJ's or XC bikes. Busted up T2 pieces (died a valiant death at Bootleg) up above on thule crossbars. with a pad across the back. There's a Dakine pad in the picture, but I've since gone to moving blankets, easier on frames and better protection IMHO.
