Strange. I had no problems watching freecaster and I am using my phone's 1MB data connection :P
the stream came from akamai, i think it depends on what provider you are and what connection he has to the akamai network. i'm on the biggest provider in germany, probably to many connections for them or akamai out of this network...

worked flawless with telekom VDSL in Berlin, just some minor glitches in the beginning!

Strange results if you ask me...Hart made a lot of mistakes, and I find very dificult to believe he has the power to come 2nd at the last split, right on the pedaling section.
Also Brook MacDonald and all the other NZ'ers in top 10? Ft William is not exactly a flat pedals-user super technical track,is it?
Who saw it live on Freecaster noticed the timing problems...

So Gwin went slower than 74 other guys in the third split with a 1:25 and still got 5 th by being 3 sec up before then?

According to Dirt, Gwinn took a spill in the woods after being 5 secs up!

It has nothing to do with that. He cant pedal slower than 74 other guys. There must be some footage of his mistake.

I'm still surprised Hannah was so far back.
See above post, he crashed. 8 seconds is usually around the time lost in a non-serious crash by a WC racer too if I remember correctly.

It blows my mind that Gwin was reportedly upwards of 5 seconds up on the field at one point. He did the same thing at SA. It seems only Hill has done that in recent years. With that kind of speed more wins will surely come.

That 5 seconds up was strange and immediately dismissed by Warner on freecaster. It didn't show that on the UCI timing feed.

The split times show he was up a bit and if he crashed rather than stalled out on course then 5 seconds sounds right.

i'm on a 3mbit connection here right now, i couldn't reach the normal freecaster site at all, always getting 503ed. i suspekt deutsche telekom of having huge problems lately, in the evening watching youtube is no fun at all. the previous kabelbw connection i had in stuttgart worked flawlessly too. anyway, it's time this sport gets more tv time so this internet problems are a thing of the past...

I predict more steve smith podiums. He had a major slide/OTB and managed to pull it together super clean/smooth and still manage a 10th. Seems like every year he gets more consistent and his wrecks get less catastrophic.

No problems watching the feed in california. Gwin had to have taken a spill, when they switched to the camera out of the woods it was a few second longer than it took most riders before he showed up. I thought Danny Hart had it, fast and loose

The UCI official results concur that Gwin was 5.5 seconds up on Minnaar at the second split. Gutted he had a crash. It's like Sam Hill at Val di Sole - if he had an ear piece with someone telling him he was nearly 6 seconds up maybe he'd have cruised and won it easily without taking too many risks...

up by five, crash and down by three is what dirt says also. there was some major timing issues being reported and the reason warner was dismissive. i'm guessing gwin went down in the same spot he did twice during practice right before quali's.

"Then Gwin…holy s–t! You have never seen anything like it. He was over 5 seconds up at the split. That is unheard of. That kind of lead is almost unbelievable. Then disaster stuck. He fell and would end up losing his five second lead and then another three. It was a cruel blow.

This result has really shaken things up. A gaggle of new young riders, some big names off the podium, some riders missing out and Gwin scaring the living daylights out of everyone. In seven days time it happens all again in Austria. Can’t wait."

somebody is not happy.

Are we gonna start making a pool on how long Hart's career lasts? Damn he's fast and fun to watch, but I doubt riding that far on the edge of his skills will let him last long.

Danny Hart has always rode like that. There was a funny article years ago in Mountainbiking UK magazine, where Shaums March did a masterclass with up and coming young Brit riders and he said that Danny was the fastest but he would never get away with that style of riding when he got bigger, it was only cause he was so small and weighed next to nothing. Well he still is and he just came second in a world cup...

My guess is that Shaums was right. Danny didn't get any bigger!

watching Gwin 2 wheel drift his bike into that steep rocky left hand notch that caught stevie smith out gave me goose bumps, that kid has some serious skills. Almost like watching Stoner or Rossi 2 wheel drifting a drop away off camber at Catalunya.

Gee is still my favorite rider to watch, he completely smashes trails and looks so precise and athletic doing it.

Minnaar is big and fit and just overpowered the trail, still not my favorite rider tho.

Hart is an A.D.D pinner, love to watch him ride but hate to watch him race.

MacDonald is a poor man's Sam Hill, not quite as athletic but still committed.

Love this sport, so many good riders coming up that absolutely smash trails and more and more tracks that test the riders skill and commitment.

Over your shoulder whispering
I am anxiously awaiting Gwin's rendition.

As for radio on course, I would hate someone in my ear. But it could help as long as your spotter called out in a section where it din't make you screw up.

Radio on course also mutes your hearing and would screw your balance.

Two things:

1) the times shown on screen during the broadcast were fine. Warner was just confused. When Gwin comes down it shows him as being 0.810 up, which if you look at the official UCI split times, he was. 1:01.157 plays Minnaar's 1:01.967. He wasn't the FASTEST through the top split, he was third (behind Gee and Bigoni), but the graphic doesn't show FASTEST, it shows hot-seat.

2) Gwin, talking about his crash:

Hart was 1.5 seconds quicker than Minnaar at the 2nd split, so he lost 3 seconds to Minnaar over the last 90 secounds of the course - seems about right, sadly :(
