well I towed to bike back from the clubhouse today and was pretty scetched out about seeing what happened under the covers.

I pulled the plug on the primary to see this on the magnet

I figured I would go have a shot since the magnet was packed with steel

I came back out after it had all drained and tipped back the primary cover and found this

I then went back inside and had a few more shots and yelled at the woman

came back out after cooling off and then found this

tensioner failure! what the hell! but I know that wasnt all that was wrong, so I went back in and finished the bottle and then kicked the dog while yelling at the neighbor.

here is the crux.....look at this pic carefully, if you look on the inner side of the flywheel you can see the gouges from the loose metal flying around but also look at the top right hand of the image and you will still see the starter gear meshed with the flywheel.

I thought my shaft was sticking and thus explains why it was smoking when everything locked up but it all had to come from the tensioner failure.

apparently I get hit with two problems at once that caused my lock up.

I am still drinking since it is dark and I will pull the starter and tranny tomorrow to see what else is scattered.

Bummer fella, looking a bit on the munted side in there.

Sorry but.... It's a Harley what'd ya expect! :(

?? Why do I have a baaad feeling that tomorrow morning my Italian bike is gonna pay out on me for that statement???

...hit with two problems at once that caused my lock up...
Not enough info. Starter could have engaged (electrical problem? Mechanical?) which whipped the chain enough to pull the screw that holds the tensioner to the case out like a nail or... I don't know what.

I'm guessing that you have three problems
  • Bought a Harley rather than a motorcycle
  • Electrical fault, causing starter to engage while riding
  • Starter issue caused tensioner failure

Chris Bosch looks exactly like Sebulba from the new Star Wars.

Edit: This isn't the random thought thread. Hmmmm....
