Thinking of buying a Kona Stab Supreme 2010, has anyone ever tried a Stab Supreme 2010 or any other similar Stab? Are they any good? I can get it pretty cheap since it's last years model, other bikes I've looked at is the Demo 8 One 2011 but that is about 1100 USD more or the Giant Glory 01 for about 2000 USD more. Are they worth the extra money?

The specs on the Stab Supreme 2010 looks good, http://www.pinkbike.com/news/2010-kona-stab-supreme.html it has Boxxer Worldcup etc so seems to be better component wise than the other two, but how about the frame?

My former bike was a 2004 Santa Cruz Bullit with 888 and a lot of heavy components (doublewides, profile cranks, old and heavy mrp guide etc) and I don't want a heavy bike again, I want something below 40 lbs. Any suggestion is it worth the extra money to buy a Demo or Glory(with "cheaper" components, but perhaps better frame).

I've also looked at used but haven't found much here in my area (Sweden).

You may be better off asking on PB, because few guys on this board actually ride Konas. My experience with Kona has been good, and I'd definitely rock this bike stock, as is. Maybe add a pair of stan's rim strips and you're good to go.

The geo should be a lot better for DH than your old bike. They have a new frame out so resell will not be good on a Kona like that but if you hate it the components are sweet and can be moved to another frame.

As you say components are really nice.

I would look into weight of the bike and geo compare to the other bikes your a looking at.

You could also look at bikes on sale in Germany or UK but then you will not have support from you local bike shop of course.

I had a 2001 Stab Primo. Not a bad bike for that time but even back then a very heavy bike.

I can't figure out why people don't like the Stab frames. It's a pretty simple high-ish pivot bike with a floater. If they figured out the geo, or at least gave the frame a 1.5in headtube, it shouldn't be a bad bike.

I see plenty of people on operators and they seem pretty fast, so I'd think a stab wouldn't hold anybody back.

FYI- there are 2 or 3 (last I checked) Stab supremes- medium- on chainlove for $2900?? Pretty screamin' deal for the part spec alone.

edit: well, not sure if you can buy from chainlove in Sweden- sorry if I gave you false hope :(

I think the bike will be sweet, though. The full saint group is rare to see on a bike;

The geo looks good to me.

I just think there is a lot of stigma attached to the brand from all the little huckers on the Stink and them not doing any new fancy suspension design.

I rode a lap on a Stab last year during a demo event. Couldn't wait to give it back. The only thing I liked about it were the brakes. It felt like it rode extremely high and didn't corner very well.

Last week the Kona rep let me parking lot test his supreme operator and that is a bike I wouldn't mind getting to try out for a full ride. Felt nice and low, really flickable and easy to get the front end up.

I loved my 2004 Stab Primo and I love my 2009 Stab. I ditched the floater and replaced left dropout for Coilair's or Stinky's not sure, really.

@dfinn: Umm Operator is the same bike with a face lift it is basically yet another Stab with a bit bigger tweak than previous revisions. I guess that the bike you rode had shock set into steep position. Otherwise Kona has pretty much the same geo that everybody is after lately. Long WB, 13.1" BBH, 63 something head angle.

I really don't know why all the Kona hate here. It is the longest running production DH bike. Simple, reliable, tweaked and refined more than any other frame.
