Next time...try five of them!!!!

No, actually, there are five of them. Apparently living in a den next to a catchbasin in my parents' neighbour's yard.

This is suburbia with quite a fair amount of green space, and I have seen the odd fox here and there, but not so many in one spot, and not so brave.

I was driving home from a beer with MMike and as I was pulling in saw 5 sets of eyes shining in the distance. I kinda just stopped to make sure there were only 5 sets. One of them carrying what looked like a small rabbit in its teeth and they all kind of scampered off.

So, what's the call? Call the town to have them "evict" them? I dunno, I'm of the mind that they're not bothering anyone. But I guess they might eat someone's cat... maybe gang up on a small kid?

What's the RM-ocodile Hunter's opinion?

Burly?

Do you think you're ready for fox ? As I recall you were defeated by a tiny mouse a while back.
You must have me confused with someone else... I showed that varmint who was boss.

Foxes are kind of sinister looking. And mock Glee viewers ruthlessly, I hear.

Foxes are not pack hunters. They are varmit and rodent hunters. A fox and an average suburban stray cat are pretty well matched but the cat has sharper claws and a bad attitude.... = cat wins.

I say leave them be. At the very least, they'll control the rat/squirrel/bunny/gerbil poplulation.

Stupid nature. I hate those stupid animals from the woods. Cant they see that my backyard is not a forest?
Yeah. I guess I'll just park the running lawnmower over the den. No fuss no muss. Apart from the re-fuelling. I'm sure I can just hire a local kid to do that. Teach some responsibility.

I wouldnt worry about them at all. They can't really harm you, and eat mostly rodents. Should keep stray cats away as well. Id love to have some on my property.

That article has now firmly cemented my plan to shoot this stupid cat that drives my dog nuts in the field behind me. Oh the joy.

We used to have to kill them when I was a kid at my parents in rural NC. Our neighbor (aunt) let those stupid things breed wild under her porch and at any time could have upwards of 10.

My dad and I would shoot the evil things every time they snuck into his back yard to hunt birds, which they do eat a TON of.

Foxes are awesome, had them living in my back yard many times, sadly most of the offspring died in the first year, they don't do anything but eat garbage and rodents.

Why someone would want to get rid of them is beyond me.

If you have small children fox faeces can contain parasite that can be transmitted to the child. Besides that I do not know of any problems.

That's also true of domestic animal sh*t too, so its not a good reason to get rid of foxes since you'd much more likely have problems with your neighbor's animals. Best to keep your kid in a bubble...or not

You really are a smart ass who can turn everything into a know it all rant. If anybody lives in a bubble its you.
Who is the smart ass? I have over a 150 hours of service working directly with wildlife at a rehab center including a red fox, various other mammals, songbirds, birds of prey, and a couple of herps.

I'd respond, but then certain people would think I'm prejudiced against Southerners.....
And wrong too. Feral animal control is used all over the world and a proven conservation tool. Domestic species do not have a greater right to live than less numerous native wildlife populations. Its a significant problem among many facing America's disappearing wildlife:

You are the smart ass I just told you so and its again you inability to see things from different angles than your own that does it.

I just gave an example of why people try to get rid of foxes because 4xBoy asked the question. I never stated it was the right thing to do, that its something I would or that it was the best solution to a potential problem.

And I said why it was stupid because domestic animals also harbor parasites and children have much greater contact with them. There is no other angle to that - foxes and wildlife are not the primary source for such concerns.

Yeah. Kinda what I figured. I was just surprised that they's set up so close to the street. There are a few parks around that have some pretty thick forest that I'd prefer if I were a fox.

The number of squirrels around here is ridiculous. I guess they attracted the foxes... I think my dad's birdfeeders are likely attracting the squirrels.

I call bullshlt. You'll eat anything that's grilled in a succulent manner, including cat I bet. ;)

It's OK. Once I kill this one, two more will take it's place. I like wildlife, not furbags somebody let drift the neighborhood. My dog has never stood on my fence at 2am while another animal went ape shlt inside a glass window and taunted them.

If it's on my property, it's compost.:thumb:

Me and my daughter had to go through the whole rabies regiment due to a fox attacking my puppy and getting blood all over myself while I was trying to save the dog. I rendered the fox immobile and Animal Control took the carcass and it came back positive for rabies. So if rabies is common in your area keep a eye out for aggression in them they are normally pretty shy.
