This is a great idea - pull someone from the 'minor leagues' and put em into a full factory deal.I would like to see the big world cup programs sign fast priviteer racers for single race deals kinda like moto does. The teams have the bikes and have to be there, might at well put fast guys on factory stuff and see how they do.
Sucks for the monster team this year.
Whether or not it's our brand of bike remains to be seen.“We place a high value on his contribution to the program, wish him well and hope to see him back on the bike soon”
Heh. The guy did spend most of last season broken and then won the single highest profile race around. Carrying around the champs jersey is not minor. Of course it might not matter if he's wearing it at home pumping thera-bands but name recognition coupled with last years' circumstances justifies the support in my mind. Who knows.... It's still not andy schleck we're talking about here so maybe you're right.Whether or not it's our brand of bike remains to be seen.
LOL... Cully lives right down the street from me and I've seen him ride. He is still quite fast.Dave Cullinan should take his place this weekend.
haha sweet...see if someone can tattoo some TLD logos to his hands and slap a flat brim on him...he's got some racing to do this weekend.LOL... Cully lives right down the street from me and I've seen him ride. He is still quite fast.
Yeah, this was my first though on reading the MONSTER ENERGY RULZ (oh and some guy who risks his life to advertise our ****ty softdrink is injured) press release.Whether or not it's our brand of bike remains to be seen.
It's called boiler plate. Press Releases are released on a template no matter what. It's standard practice in PR depts. world wide. Our rider got hurt, good opportunity to give mad props to the sponsors.
...only in mediocre ones, or those working to a minimal budget. It's called boiler plate. Press Releases are released on a template no matter what. It's standard practice in PR depts. world wide.
I think what's lame here is no so much the release which follows pretty standard press release format, but rather copy/pasting a press release and posting it as an article w/o distinguishing it as such....only in mediocre ones, or those working to a minimal budget.
Um, no. Corporations work with boiler plate all the time, otherwise things do not get approved for release....only in mediocre ones, or those working to a minimal budget.
To continue the derailment...Um, no. Corporations work with boiler plate all the time, otherwise things do not get approved for release.
Having penned these before, the press release speaks to a bit of desperation on the part of team management. No doubt sponsors ponied up big to get on board this year, with the promise of a Hill resurgence. Coupled with his relatively lackluster results so far this season, it doesn't bode well. Rainbow jersey means little when it's not paraded around.Heh. The guy did spend most of last season broken and then won the single highest profile race around. That press release did kind of read like 'please please please don't drop me, please please please' however.
Where do I send money to make this happen?Dave Cullinan should take his place this weekend.
I'd tend to agree, except the obvious damning-through-faint-praise quote. It's called boiler plate. Press Releases are released on a template no matter what. It's standard practice in PR depts. world wide.
To continue the derailment...
Um, sometimes, sure. Doesn't mean the releases will be any good. eg, this one re:SH injury. Makes me think that Monster Energy is just another careless corporate who don't give a toss about one of 'their' riders.
Releases can (and in my view) be tailored, or even (shock horror) purpose written. That's what good PR firms/depts can do for a client that wants/pays for it.
so - public relations fail *for me*, but I suspect not the end of the world for Monster though, because I don't drink their product anyway.
Once again, sucks to hear that Sam's been injured. 2012 for the comeback!
My point - more or less. Just another cynical massive corporate that can't be bothered to write a decent press release notifying fans of injury to their (Monster) and possibly *the* largest name star in DH...I doubt his endorsement brings in much revenue (he's not even one of the "featured athletes" on their site). Actually, given their parent company (Hansen's) is pulling in $1.4 billion in revenue I guarantee he's not even a blip on their radar. Is it really such a surprise that they didn't devote much in the way of resources for this press release?
The team's usual top performer, Sam Hill, was not competing. The reigning elite downhill world champion recently crashed and injured his shoulder and is presently recovering from surgery to repair the ligaments in his shoulder.
Until his very recent run of unfortunate injuries Sam was arguably the most consistent rider on the World Cup circuit. He has had a podium position at every World Champs since 2001 (bar Canberra 09), he also had one of the longest podium streaks in recent history lasting through only missing the podium TWICE from the beginning of the 2007 season through to his season ending Fort William 2010 crash. I that ain't consistent then nothing is. His one crash in Val di sole followed by his wild get off in Andorra the following year has somehow labelled him as a win or bust kind of rider which has never ever been the case. the internet is pretty thick though!Sponsoring a rider as random as Hill could only be considered a gamble to most investors.
He's hardly Mr Consistent but when he wins, he wins big and generates significant column inches. Sadly the gamble didnt pay off this year.
Really sad to see him out, definitely one of the most exciting riders to watch although some of these new kids on the block could challenge that throne too!
Great time for our sport regardless.
I stand corrected. Thx for the potted Hill history. I returned to the sport a few years ago so have only seen him as inconsistent yet amazing rider when it hangs together for him.Until his very recent run of unfortunate injuries Sam was arguably the most consistent rider on the World Cup circuit. Also, I feeling like winning Overall in 2009 and champs in 2010 is a pretty solid return on specialized investment.
