If you're in the Baton Rouge area, hit up Burger Mania. That place had the juiciest burgers I've had in the southern states by far.

only thing on that list worthwhile is in-n-out
make sure to get animal fries and a neopolitan shake (secret menu)

If you're in downtown LA, hit up Yellow Basket for a patty melt or pastrami

or visit a Farmer Boys for an awesome bacon avocado burger

and go to a REAL mexican food place like "Roberto's" or "Santana's" and order carne asada fries.

Well if we're talking burgers/eats. I like and recommend:

Umami Burger. There's one on La Brea, south of Wilshire, and one up by Sunset Blvd.

Loteria Grill in the Grove. The Grove is kind of a craphole, lots of traffic, but I tend to eat at Loteria a lot during the mornings, after rides. There's also a grill in the back of the Grove/Farmer's market that is ok, I mean, not like the best burger in town but when I'm starving after a morning ride, I'll have them make a double cheeseburger and then I fill it with hash browns so....yeah. I'm gonna have some heart issues later. But you know, whatever.

**LA has a lot of great places for food. I don't know all the best places, but there are good places all over. Same with bars etc. If you stay away from the touristy trash areas.**

I went to visit a friend several years ago and was surprised how much fun we had. The food was a surprise everywhere we went. Especially the beer. It was all $6, but there was lots of new stuff and hell, your on vacation.

We also went mountain biking north of Santa Monica and it ended up being one of the best rides of the trip.

You should go visit the levees and Bourbon Street when you are in LA. Maybe have a shrimp po-boy and visit a juju-man.

LA is gigantic. Define where in LA.

BTW, you picked a good time, a few days later and you would hit carmageddon when they close the 405 between the 10 and the 101 over the weekend of 7/16-7/17.

If you enjoy rock climbing LA has two of the best spots for climbing in hot weather.

Zuma Beach: The ocean just about breaks on the wall.

Malibu Creek State Park: Awesome hiking, swimming and climbing. (if you go on a weekend there will be a lot of people of a certain ethnicity hanging out by the creek)

Hey man, don't listen to the hater's, LA is actually a pretty great place if you can get past the traffic, overcrowding and rude people... ;)

anyhow, without knowing your familial circumstances i can only recommend what I think would be fun for a couple days.

1. rent cruisers in Venice and cruise the boardwalk up to santa monica and take in the natural sites of cute girls in bikinis. Follow that up with dinner/drinks on Main St. in Santa Monica or Abbott Kinney St. in Venice.

2. Take a cruise through the old LA neighborhoods of Silver Lake, Eagle Rock, Old Pasadena and Hollywood Hills. Neighborhoods that have some great old architecture from the late 1800's, it will give you a different perspective of this city.

3. Cruise up PCH to Pt. Magu and back, maybe even explore some of the canyon rd's in Malibu.

If you have time, you can rent a good mtb from a number of shops and get a ride in. If you're interested I would certainly be willing to take you on a tour of the best trails on the west side. Either way have fun in LA, I moved to Santa Monica about 7 years ago and while it took some time to acclimate, I really like this city now.
