I'm not planning to do anything. Just curious. So your conclusion is that the Raptor is a decent deal for what it offers (factory support, warranty in theory, 4WD, big itself/big V8), I guess.
You can't take a comparable truck (brand new half ton truck) and turn it into a raptor for less than the cost of a raptor while keeping a factory warranty intact. So yes, in theory if you want to compare apples to apples then yes, it is a good deal.

If you have the ability to fabricate and the know how to design a good suspension system you can make a more capable truck for less money/a vehicle that will outperform it and is more purpose built. However you will be making sacrifices in on road handling, reliability, creature comforts, space, etc.

That may be clear enough for you to understand? I guess.

You could easily build a Tundra or something to that spec with a full cage for 20K.
Certainly not a new one with a factory warranty...

My buddy has an 02 tundra with 2.5s front and rear, camburg upper arms and a deaver half pack in the rear. It rides awesome and charges in the dez but it's also sitting on the bumpstops with 500 lbs in the bed which is unacceptable for a full size truck in my book.

The shocks on the raptor have internal bypasses aka internal hydraulic bumpstops. Those rubber ones are to prevent metal on metal contact. The open part of the frame is obviously to get a wrench on the nut that secures the bumpstop. Seems like it would have been easier to leave it full boxed a d but a threaded insert into the frame. I bet it would still bend though. It is the same frame structure (adjusted for the raptors short bed of course) as a regular f150 crawl under one and look. The wider track width comes from longer a arms and a wider rear axle. It's a cool truck and very capable for something you can walk out of a dealership with, but obviously has it's limits.

Links are really not the answer. There are plenty of fast and reliable race trucks running rear leaves.

There is a reason anyone who builds desert trucks for a living or as a serious hobby usually builds the cage first. Anything with a ladder frame will bend eventually. Sometimes beater trucks last so long is because half of the suspension travel comes from frame flex...

I was talking about parts and install, not the truck itself. A warranty does you no good for a vehicle they won't warranty....
right, but the idea is that used within reason it should be warrantied.

My opinion is that in this case the frame should be warrantied, but then again I can understand if it isn't. My beef is with some of the posts I have seen where warranty was denied because of scratched or dented skid plates, warn tires, etc.

Ford should be better than that, and of course building a truck like this they should have known better.

Hell my 1997 wrangler went in for warranty for a TPS, Transfer case, rear driveshaft, rear axle shaft, rear brakes, transmission, exhaust manifold, plugged catalytic converter, spider gears in rear differential, and a front axle shaft.

I was clearly abusing the **** out of it offroad, it had brush scratches all in the paint, softop windows, etc from tree branches, the transmission and transfer case skid plate was beat up pretty good, the gas tank skid was well marked, and I had installed an engine and oil pan skid plate myself (aftermarket). Jeep/Chrysler was still warrantying my vehicle, now they were asking why it was breaking, but they would see their own jeep advertisements on the wall in the service shop that I would be standing next to when they asked those questions and would fix the jeep.....

I am not saying Ford should just fix everything, and I am sure in my case I got lucky a few times, but they should fix bent frames considering it is happening to a lot of raptors.

with my shop and tools I can build a bad ass truck for 15grand.

include my labor it would be 30 grand
Including the purchase price of the truck and the parts/labor to make it brand new in and out? Or $30k to take my 225k toyota from dog slow worn out and beat down to dog slow worn out, beat down and rolling on an extremely capable long travel setup?

What a cop-out by Ford.....
Did you read the whole thread? It was pretty clear that the pre-run was not marked well and that there was no requirement that the participants have the GPS uploaded. A lack of suitable communication equipment is also on the organizers.

Blame the aftermarket guy that put it on, not ford.

I did.
I also lurk on other Ford forums as i have a Ford truck . While alot of attention is on this particular event there does seem to be bent frames issues all over the states so i just dont buy the context that this event is the common denominator of destruction.(This is Fords line)
For all the hype around the Raptor and its build (resi Fox shocks for ex) its absurd (to me) the truck would major fail crossing a cattle guard at highway speed.
I know everything can be argued about what is reasonable use and whats not but to me its like arguing that a new V-10 dh frame broke b/c of a small drop. Thats what its intended use is for crying out loud.

Did you see the other hit? It's about 1min later in the video and based on the truck's response I would assume was the actual killer.

Im over here now
im do find it funny and not surprising that they blame the aftermarket springs without knowing how many of the trucks actually had them installed.

its a production truck and they took a huge hit at high speeds...it would be like a dropping your V10 to flat at warp speed without the bump stump on the shock (if they in fact had the aftermarket springs on )
