anybody run stans strips with 729's and 3c minions???? I would like to use the 3c's instead of the UST minions, but I know the UST's fit tighter to the rim and are less likely to roll. I have wittnessed the major rolling advantage of this setup and want to give it a go.

cheers

My buddy who races Cat 1 in the GES runs 729's tubeless with 3C Ardents (he can get used to anything) and has had no issues.

Try to avoid taking the tire on and off the rim repeatedly if you can as this will stretch the bead and decrease the ability of the tire to seat properly/hold air. If you need to add more Stan's, pull the valve core in the air valve and squirt the stuff in there.

Hope this helps!

If you don't allready have the rim strips or want another pair I have a pair that have never been used and I no longer have the wheels. Make me an offer.

Thanks Dave, but I got a set comming due to the positive reviews, I nuked my knee today so I'll likely be XC'ing anyways for a few weeks.

I've run 3C Minions tubeless since early 2010.
With strips and latex, I've barely ever lost any pressure.
With 823 and latex, I always lose some pressure during storage, so I need to top the pressure before riding (which is a good practice anyway).
Both setups have been 100% reliable while riding, with high range of usable pressures. You don't really want to go under 20 psi though, you may not get flats, but your rims will get ruined in no time.

tried setting this up today using the proper stan's strips and nearly new (used 2 days) 3c Minions. The first one setup super easy, I put 50 psi in, layed it on its side and moved on to the next. The 2nd one would not seat on the rim......I checked on the first one and it was flat! No matter what I did I could not get them to hold air. The rims are new, the tires are new, I checked the strips and they were centered. The rair seems to be leaking around the stems. The strips seem very wide just at the stem area. Maybe there's no room for the bead of the tire to get between the strip and the rim. This is very frustrating. I have 2 sets of wheels set up tubeless on my AM bike, one with strips and one UST and both were very easy. I expected these wheels/tires to be even easier.

any have some suggestions???

Go ghetto on its @$$. :thumb:

Its either leaking from around a based and escaping at the schrader' the strip has a small hole from tire lever or the moulding around the schrader has gone belly up. I've had that happen on stand strips a few times. Ghetto from here on out.

I muscled the tires on by hand to avoid damaging the strips. I allready payed for the strips so I'm going to give it a go. It just sucks that a waisted all that sealant trying to get it to work. I'll try again and make sure everything is centered well.

I have been unimpressed with the durability of the UST rubber (60a, super tacky) too (but I keep buying them... I don't know why!).

Now I'm trying their standard 3c tire. Which were you using?

And you didn't mention it, but if you hadn't tried already, once the tire is seated, make sure you spend some time moving the rim around to properly coat the entire interior of the tire/ rim with stan's before going on to wheel number 2.

If you have trouble getting the tire to seat, try removing the tire and adding another layer or two of tape under the rimstrip, which will improve your bead/ rim fit. Another tip is to pull the valve stem and use an air blow gun (http://www2.northerntool.com/air-blow-guns.htm) to get it seated initially. Good luck!

For what its worth, I've found a big difference in puncture resistance between the UST Maxxpro and UST Supertacky. Supertacky works fine, whereas Maxxpro gets punctured if you give it a stern look.

It doesn't matter now though, because now I'm using Muddy Mary's, and they are clearly superior.

That's 2 different compounds. 60a is called MaxxPro, 42a is Super Tacky. 3c uses a mix of compounds to balance grip and durability.
I was using a UST 60a in the rear and a UST super tacky up front. I mentioned both compounds because I have found both ust rubber types have tearing issues from my personal experience. It's a shame because the grip of these tires is fantastic.

3C sofar has been good grip-wise. I just hope it proves to be more durable too. :)

edit: oh and something helpful for tubeless. You can buy presta to schrader valve adapters. If you are out on the road and absolutely cannot get your tire to bead, you can remove the valve core, screw on the valve adapter and then use a gas station air pump to get the tire to bead.
