I'm looking at a slightly older frame with a 100mm BB. I can't use my beloved saint cranks. What are my options for decent 100mm width BB/crank setups? I can't really afford an RF Atlas setup at the moment, so it might have to be something ISIS.....which goes on to...if I buy an ISIS crank, am I setting myself up for fail? I love the saint setup....

This is going back a bit and I may be confused but I'm pretty sure the Tomac Magnum came with a 100mm bb, Truvativ used to make 100mm bbs.

I don't think the ISIS set up is that bad, the bbs do wear out quicker but there's less resistance.

Also SKF may do a 100mm bb

How's that rear end working then? Lawwil with a linkage driven shock?

It's red though so it's got to be fast. Everyone knows that

those astrix havoc frames rode awesome. basically a linkage driven lawill.

i have a used and scratched up / ugly set of holzfeller isis cranks you can have. just pay shipping. they are straight though.

I used to have a Giant DH Team, that thing had a 100mm BB.

FSA had an ISIS BB called Platinum DH 100, have a look around for one of those.

They lasted pretty well, maybe half a season of racing and then got replaced. The linkage on that thing needed service more often. ;)

you'll consider buying anything won't you? got a super monster to put on it?
Pretty basically. No super monster, maybe a Risske Champ though.

It's similar. It apparently gets around the patent but I don't know how. He uses a linkage to manipulate the shock rate. Not light but accurate, I suppose.

did you have one? Did you like it? I know it's heavy as **** but I'm more concerned with the ride quality at this point in my fat career. I may take you up on those cranks. Are they the howitzer ones or regular isis?

are you talking about the linkage on the giant or astrix? Or are you talking about the BB needing replacing? I'm confused.

i didn't own one, but built a few up for customers, and have ridden them numerous times. for sure not light. but plush, no dive, reactive, stable. really nice ride. its been maybe 4-5 years now though...

anyhow, they are ISIS cranks. if you want them, just pm me your address and i will stick them in the mail.

If you can find the 100mm RaceFace ISIS BB's the bearings lasted longer in those than the Truvativ. I rode a RaceFace in my Havoc.

The Havoc gets around the Lawwill patent because it's lower pivot/chainstay isn't eccentric like the Rotecs. Being that it's up a little higher also helps to give it a bit more of a rearward axlepath too.

BTW... those things DO NOT flex.

Is the one you found being sold out of Colorado? If so it might be my old one.

I currently have a dh frame with a 100mm BB, and have tried both the FSA and Truvativ bbs, and the FSA lasted much longer. It's also an ISIS style... I think the FSA bb is also lighter by a few grams. Not that it makes much of a difference on a 50lbs bike...

You won't do it ;)
f u I won't....we'll see though. This frame would necessitate a new crankset, HS, chainguide backplate, and possibly therefore a new steerer if it's huge enough....there are probably wiser options out there but i've always liked it.

thanks dude. ISIS seems to be the way to go as it's cheaper and a few reviews poo-pooed the howitzer system.

Profile still makes spindles long enough for 100mm bb shells.
I have an SGS and a DHcomp that I plan to keep around indefintely. After my Isis bb's die those bikes are going to get Profiles. Really short ones.

I've ridden the holzfeller isis and howitzer versions for a long time each. I ride hard and hose my bikes down after rides. Anyway, both worked fine for me, but I had to replace ISIS more often.

I have a pair of ISIS North Shore's too. Great luck with them.
FSA Pounder cranks are heavy and hard to find but besides Saint cranks they've proven to be the most durable cranks I've ever owned. HEAVY though.

cool! I'm not surprised to hear they work, but a lot of people were crapping on them. I wish I could just keep my saints...
Dude, just get and Avy or Push your shock.

But seriously, just keep saving your pennies and get something new/complete next year. New parts, full warranties, no headaches.....

when does the magical money fairy stop at my house? I'm buying a house within the next year or two...a new (read more than $1500) frame is not happening within that time frame. If I can hop on something else that I'll like in the meantime, I'm doing it.

I never got more than one days riding out of the old 100mm FSA Platinum ISIS BBs before there was detectable play. the play just gradually got worse until the axle rattled about but the BBs never failed.

profile's are the way to go IMO, pity you almost never see short profiles for sale S/H
