They're not as indestructable as they say...

Landed a bit nose heavy off a kicker, caught a rock, wheel went sideways then my whole body weight slammed onto the handlebars and folded the wheel. I had to remove the wheel and slam it on the ground several times so that it could spin freely enough to save me from carrying the bike down...

Anyways, how's Azonic on warranty in this kind of situation? Would they by any chance offer to replace the rim (and spokes?) for free or at a discount?

Haha warranty you say?? You taco'd your wheel from a crash. Not, the weld at the seam broke, or the hub pawls don't engage. A warranty is against manufacturer's defect not a guarantee this wheel won't bend. Your fault, not theirs. Pony up and buy a new wheel. Fronts aren't that expensive anyhow.

wait, so you screwed up and you want a freebie?

e-mazing
Woaw hey, it's not like I'm demanding to get something for free. I simply asked if there was a chance that they would replace it free of charge. If not, maybe at a discount (like PLENTY of other bike part manufacturers)?

Besides, who wouldn't want free stuff if they had the chance? Don't lie to yourself, because you know you would!

From what I know from buddies running those wheels, they're pretty accommodating with new rims. They have some pricing structure where they'll even rebuild your wheel for you. None of it's free but I don't think it's too expensive.

If you were to take your jeep off road and hit a rock and totally jack your alignment and maybe bend some stuff, do you think your dealer would warranty anything?

You can try...but you, being the "greasey wheel" that you are, are unknowingly sabotaging the industry. You are putting Azonic in a bad position asking them to go above and beyond the capabilities of their wheelset. If they say "no" well then they are the bad guy. And no doubt you may smear their name, which they don't want. So they will probably cave to avoid such damage. Then they most likely occur more than budgeted normal warranty costs. These additional costs are usually passed on to the rest of the consumers causing the rest of us to pay. This is so not the norm in any other industry. Are you getting the cause-effect of your actions here?

We'll just call you a benign saboteur as you don't know wtf you are doing, but you are causing the rest of us to pay. You need to own up to your "crash" (or your "bad moment") and pay full retail for a new hoop and be nice to your lbs to have them lace up and build you a new wheel. This is what keeps the industry going. Like it or not.

Harsh words fo' sho'. I have no sympathy for your situation as those wheelsets are cheap as f&ck and you abused them above and beyond but yet you ask for something free.

Cheese and rice wtf wut

just to be clear:

THIS IS IN NO WAY A WARRANTY SITUATION.

do not call them asking for a warranty. if you wish to contact them, ask if they offer crash replacement, if they have the correct rim color and # of holes (they recently changed from 36h to 32h) in stock, and if they offer wheel rebuilding service (unlikely in house), or if they can refer you to a dealer in your area.

Well I obviously asked them if they had a crash replacement only when I emailed them. I think I now regret not asking them straight up to give me some free rims.

I don't see any problem asking for a crash replacement, many companies have a crash policy. I got a Trek frame for 32% of retail a couple years ago after smashing mine into a tree, I am very happy with Trek and saved a ton of money over just writing it off. I spend a lot of money on mtb gear as it is...

As far as Azonic... I had a set of Outlaws a few years ago and destroyed the freehub engagement mechanism. It took them 6 months to send me a new rear wheel. So good luck with your claim...

The questions you should ask yourself in this situation:
1. What does the warranty say it supports?
A) Manufacturers defects
B) Crash/riding induced failures

2. How did the product fail?
a) Seam failed while sitting in my garage
b) Suffered a catastrophic failure while riding

3. Did the product fail as a result of:
a) Sitting in the garage
b) crashing

If you answered yes to any of the 'A' options, then you have a warranty claim. If you answered yes to any of the 'B' options, then you can suck it up like a big boy and admit that you broke the part. You even acknowledge that you landed nose heavy at an angle and it gave out. It's called physics and not everything can handle excessive loads.

Serious question though, how old are you? You seem to think that you are entitled to new parts, despite your admitting that you are at fault.

I have found this only occurs in younger individuals, notably those relatively new to the sport. Generally, older individuals/riders will tend to admit when they are at fault for damaging or breaking a part.

Hey, we are saving some hassle. Not for you, but the warranty people at Azonic from when you call up with a stupid question about a discount or a freebie.

But you should ask this question of your friends and your shop, and see how many guffaws you get.

I'll stand by their warranty. Send me the broken wheel and I'll send you my Azonic Outlaw for free. Just include $349 for shipping and handling. :D

The exact same thing happened to me. I called up Azonic, I can't remember the dude I talked to but he was really chill. He sent me a new wheel for free next day air. I couldn't believe it. Too top it off, he felt bad about me missing riding time so he sent over a package of omaha steaks and a case of beer. That's great customer service.
