Matt, Carla and I headed to the mountains to work out the big bikes and something different than Wilsons this weekend.

The plan to try out the Beech trails and Super D then head over to Sugar.

When we arrived at the Beech parking lot we noticed some familiar looking vehicles. It looked like the trail crew had parked there to work on the DH track. We headed up the trails looking for the Super D. The trails must have been dumped on the night before, in combination with them being relatively new we got about a mile in and realized this was going to be a lost cause. We basically made it to the top of the SuperD and then headed back down, passing the trail crew coming out of the woods.

So we decided to head over to Sugar. We took the lift to the top once, $12 and 22 minutes. The top section is really good and I am pissed we wussed out on the big rock roller the first time down. Since the weather was looking iffy and Matt's wife was kind enough to offer to shuttle we shuttled the next few runs. Is there a way to get all the way to the top when you shuttle? We couldnt figure it out, so basically started every subsequent run right at the intersection of the ski slope and entrance to the third steep rocky section.

As we were packing up I saw what looked to be MotoMike, Garret, possibly Herndon wizzing by on a run down?

There always seems to be a pretty negative vibe floating around Sugar, yep the lift was slow and there was really 1 or 2 fun options down, but if you got a good sunny day there I could see myself spending $25 and making a day of it. :thumb:

That video was at sugar, right? How do you get to that part of the trail? I saw that you came in by that creek crossing on the main trail...I saw you guys ride past us at beech when we were working in the nationals trail and recognized your bikes.

That video basically starts right where the 3rd steep rocky section ends and you have the choice to stay hard left and descend down the lift line into some steep berms and a gap jump OR, do what we did in that video and cross the slope and take the trail down the other side of the slope, then it crosses back over and into the same trail.

Ok, yea when I was there last time, it was hard to see that other trail since the grass is so tall. Will give that trail a go next time.

No negative vibes here, you should come ride with us next weekend. I am definitely riding sunday and I am sure you can find people to ride with on saturday. A lot of locals rode today and it was epic.
You can shuttle all the way to the top, just take a left at the reserve before sugar top/ski country condos. Keep in mind that this time of year a lot of condo owners are around and all of the parking is technically private property. So the only way to be legit is to have a driver and not leave a vehicle at the top.
An all day lift ticket is around $25 and if you stay all day you can get around 8-10 runs in. Lift ride takes 25 min and shuttling takes around 20 min. I would rather ride the lift the extra 5 min and save gas and wear and tear on my truck. Hope to see you out there.

The only neg. vibe at Sugar is that they don't have races at the best race course I have ever ridden! Haha Would have been a good year for one there, with only the Nats in the southeast this year.

Moto and Steven have done a lot of the work. That's why it's so good lol. Hopefully the weather will be good this weekend. See you guys Sunday if you are out there.

Now, if we could all get together and do a little ninja trail that peels off left from the lift, edges the woods on Tom Terrific, squirts under the lift just above the 3/4 station, down the bank and then straight down into Donovan's iand then straight on down through the woods and pop out into Lizards...without touching the slope. ;)

Yes $25 for all day lift ticket. Lift runs at 100ft per minute and takes 25 minutes to get to the top. There are two trails. Both of them are steep and rocky. Butch you and I both know that trail construction will never happen.

We were told there would never be a trail from the top...and well, we got that to work. Granted, most people are tired of working on trails at ski resorts for free, so don't know that anyone would volunteer even if it was OK'ed.

Who knows? Maybe word of Herndon's project will reach Gunter's ears....;)

A lot of the upper section and Donovan's were cut without permission. "Sugar will never be a mountain bike destination." Those were the exact words. And yes the super d (vw rock) is open.

i would def be down with some building. i work all the time at my local little known trail and would love to do some real dh work. my schedule gives me alot of time off so let me know and if im off that day im in

Lady at the shack was really nice. The weather looked iffy when we got there so she let us buy the $12 ticket and said if we wanted to upgrade she would credit us towards the full day lift pass. :thumb:

More fun @ Sugar last Saturday. We got a lot more footage, but this was the run down that resulted in the most entertainment (turn on the sound for better entertainment value, but keep the kids away as there is some adult language). :rofl:

I know Beech is coming next year, but if they just had a few jumps or something it would be really sweet. They dont need to be big (for me anyway).
