2 things:

Whiteface - dudes have been focusing trail work on the lower mtn. because that's the most frequently used (shuttle access).

Jiminy - hit me up boys! Will be done with school by mid August, and live only 45 min's from Jiminy. I would take a gamble if a few of you all tag along. I think that my crappy knuckle can handle it!

Made it out to Jiminy 2 weeks ago because I heard it was up and running. It was 25 for a lift ticket and the main lift only operates on Sat and Sun. The trails did have work and I had a blast there. The trails def could have been marked better but there is some tough rocky rooty terrain here. Def worth the trip out there. Grab onto your bike when you get to the top on the lift because the chair shakes so much at the wheel house that it will smash your bike back into the chair. Cheers!

Name a weekend in Aug, stud. I am generally OK until September. Pterodactyl and I will scope out in the meantime, as we're "local".

I could navigate the fck out of a group ride at Jiminy. When the decent trails were first popping up I was riding there 3-4 days a week. It's no coincidence that's when I used to be fast.
I might even get to do some maintenance on White Lightning. I don't think I've looked at it for 3 years or so. It's not even on the numbered map!
If you want to see steep, it'll float ya boat.

I have a wedding in frikkin Wisconsin the 13th.

Good luck finding cheap lodging in the immediate vicinity.
"The Berkshires: Americas Premier Cultural Resort"- Bad omen for thrift.

Coming out from Eastern MA I'd reccomend state forest camping at Pittsfield St. Forest.
It's basically on the other side of the hill. Pittsfield is a bit of a ****hole, but this time of year anything along the rt7 corridor is nose-bleedingly expensive.

Check out the listing for MA DCR campgrounds: here

There might be some cheap stuff over the NY border but try to only stop my car in 2 places in NY, Roxbury and Wilmington.

Meh on across the NY border unless you want to drive into East Greenbush/Troy (about 40 minutes west). Stephentown, just across the NY border, is generally for city folks with 2nd summer homes and hard core corn fed locals.

If I was closer I'd offer to let people crash at my place, but I'm still at least 2 hrs away. I will keep the 13th in mind......I'll likely day trip it though.

I'll do it (done it before) I just won't like it. Leaving Jiminy post-ride, post-pizza and wings and driving 2.5hr in the dark is TOUGH....but I've done dumber things in my life.

So who's in if we go the 13th?

I don't mean poorly maintained. I just mean rocky and gnarly. I actually had a ton of fun. And yes, all by my lonesome.

I was wondering what you meant by ragged?

The crowds we are working on. It seems Tuedays are the busiest days. Our numbers are up a bit this year. The trails will always be rocky and gnarly. We have been doing more trail work than ever. Each Monday and Thursday we have 5 trail workers on the trails all day. Most other days we have 1 or 2 on. It's a bit of a risk, but they say if you build it they will come.

New huge step down should be ready on trail # 12 soon!

I should be able to, I can't think of anything else going on that day. Though as a disclaimer I haven't DH'ed at all this year so I expect to be rusty and riding like a sally.

Ehh, don't sweat it - I've been off the DH bike since I broke my knuckle mid-May. Did maybe 1 run in June at WF, but spent most of the time tooling around the pumptrack with Jr.

who cares...the more the merrier. Jiminy is great because you can go slow or fast and it never really mattered....it's a very manageable mountain. Hell, I might even be the fast one in the crowd...

I can make it the 7th..... not the 14th though. Actually, I'll probably be there on the 7th.

I have nothing to do for the next three weekends. I'll def check it out one of those days. Maybe we could find a decent race course. I know the place well but never thought about racing when I was there. Anyone remember the eccc race course there?

I laid it out 5 years ago using two really solid trails and had the chance to personally tape it twice. Fantastic. It was just about the same speed without a chain and equally fun from Cat3 to Pro. Now it's been decimated by the windmill and erosion and has lost it's flow, character and swagger.

It'd be hard to use another series of trails to put together a track that wouldn't have 45 seconds of pedaling and some traversing unless you use a track so steep that it wouldn't be any fun for beginner riders.

All of these presumptions are based on last years trail conditions mind you, so the crew this year may have really dialed stuff back in on the track. I'm a fan of tracks that don't need chains.
There is the possibility of cutting and buffing out some trail closer to the center of the mountain for a new track, but gosh darn int, I loved that old track. With the support of the trail crew a pretty darn great track could get built though. All of us who've been riding at Jiminy for a long time just have such high expectations for the quality of that track....

Agreed and that is exactly what I was thinking about.

I'd like to use something existing if possible. I'll bet there is at least one good trail that could be used. Today's cat3 is a lot better rider than years ago. .

Still one of my favorite courses/trails ever. Never raced it, but whenever I'm at Jiminy I molest the crap out of that combo. Makes me sad every time I come to that construction area where they completely rerouted/effed up the trail.

That said, I'm thinking I'm 95% in for the 13th. I just sat on my DH bike in the garage and a poof of dust went up in the air. I need to DH. Heck maybe I'll make a trip to Jiminy this weekend to brush up.

Riding Mt. Snow today to scout for slalom and gs tracks(yes!), Jiminy tomorrow to look at and think about ECCC and ESC tracks. We're stopping on the way home to start scouting a (permanent) DS track in the woods at Holiday farm. We gotta get our **** together y'all and show appreciation for all the hard work that Mr. Ulmer and Mr. Rude have put in to elevate Northeastern DH!

Killer! I cant wait to get back on a bike and shred with everyone. Ruptured ATFL in my right ankle has kept me grounded all summer. I did just get a few XC rides in this past weekend, maybe DH before the end of the riding season. I would be great for have a ESC DH race here in Ma.
