I am finally getting my eyes checked and some glasses ordered for everyday use tonight.

I have been thinking about this for a long time and now that I am finally going to have a RX for my eyes, I want to be able to ride with better vision. I don't want to do glasses under goggles because I have heard its just dangerous, not into contacts because my eyes don't like the feel and they are more distracting than anything, and I don't want straight up prescription lenses because I don't want to have to run tear offs at all times in fear of scratching them.

This is why I have decided on goggle inserts. The only real place I have found is this place:

http://www.888rxgoggles.com/

Anyone have any experience with them? Do you have any other suggestions? I would love to hear what you guys have/experienced before I put down the cash.

I believe that Smith Optics also does prescription goggles as well as sunglasses. I have the rx sunglasses from them and the optics rock

So? Have you tried these out yet? I've tried some different contact lenses and they just don't agree with me. Looking for options. I'm thinking of either these adapters, or just bite the bullet on some Rx oakleys or something.

I have a set of clear lens Oakley sunglasses. I've been using them for about a month and they are great. I doubt l'll use goggles for biking ever again, as the vision is so clear. I would be concerned about distortion from prescription goggles too. Just acknowledge that you will be the geek in a full face and glasses Canadian style and move on.

What model? Seems only some of them are offered in clear lens. I'm thinking I'd want switchable lenses too, or at least be able to have spare set of lenses I can switch out quickly.

I can't ride with the rx goggle inserts apparently. They seriously mess up my depth perception and it is pretty sketchy to ride with them. I am bummed I wasted my money on these. I tried all of the guys tips to make them work with no luck. AND they don't give refunds. 3 of 4 of my friends who got them had the same results. Only one of my friends was able to ride with them without any issues.

Ah, disregard the PM I just sent then...bummer. Seemed like a good idea. I presume you provided the focal distance (or whatever they called it).

What have you been using then? Rx sunglasses w/ clear lens?

Such a bummer. :(

Yeah I triple checked and made sure he had all the correct info he needed and still no luck.

I have just been riding without anything. I have done it for years, just a bummer I am not able to see nearly as well while riding. Little sketch at times too. I think eventually I will try riding with contacts, but I have never used them before and I currently don't have a prescription for them.

Yeah, that sucks. I've got contacts, but I've got pretty bad astigmatism to the point that I'm at the upper limit of prescription strength. They have to stay int the correct orientation to provide good vision. In one of my eyes, the prescription is actually not quite right. They don't make a lens strong enough. They result is so-so vision, combined with uncomfortable eyes.

I guess I'll go the Oakley route. My only concern is scratching my fancy expensive Lenses. The goggle adapters seem good because they'd be protected by the goggle lens. Not sure if I'll just give them a go to see.

I'm not made of money or anything, but the idea just seems too good not to try.

If I go the Oakley route, I guess I'll go Jawbone. People say a lot of good things about Oakley optics. They must be decent....

I have straight jackets because they are relatively cheap. Go to a lenscrafters to find out which glasses can be made prescription. There are way more than what's on the website.

I've been wearing eyeglasses since I was a little kid. I just wear my regular glasses when riding as well. One of these days I will get a pair of dedicated biking glasses. I don't usually wear sunglasses when riding anyway, as it's not that sunny in the east and there are still lots of dark areas in the woods. I really don't see the need for goggles when riding DH.

I do need to wear goggles when racing my off-road buggy. I have two pairs; one is Oakley O-frames with tear-offs and they fit well over my regular glasses. My other pair is Smith OTG (over the glasses) with roll-offs, and they also fit well. I don't see what the disadvantage is; it seems unlikely I would take an impact to the eye with a full face, but if I did it wouldn't be any worse than wearing the glasses by themselves.

Well, I'm going to go with the goggle adapter and see how they work out. I can't seem to fit sunglasses (or my regular glasses) into my helmet very well. I like a tight fit for my helmet...

I'll post up with any news.

Your optometrist can get you sample lenses from diff contact makers. Some fit better than others.

Yeah, I've tried 2 types and they just don't work. They rotate when I blink so my vision is blurry half the time anyway. Plus I find that they dry and glaze over between blinks. No matter what, it seems like contacts just don't agree with me. So I've just been living with blurry vision while riding for the summer.

I had a custom set of clear lense prescription Oakley's made. They were not cheap so I took my full face into the optometrist when I was initially fitting frames. Once I found a pair that worked with my full face and kept the wind flow out, I bought them. All in it was ~$350 post insurance and would have been closer to $500 without.

I wear those glasses for pretty much any outdoor activity now, making them well worth the expense.

Are you telling me that you are going to ride with a full face and sunglasses?

For shame

What's your prescription like? I'm at about a -5.50 in both eyes, and I find that when riding in (Oakley Drill Bit) glasses, they move around too much, and it looks like the trail is moving. Sounds crazy, but you'll see what I mean if you hold your head steady and move your glasses up and down. I wear Acuvue Oasys contacts (for astigmatism) when I ride now, but glasses all other times. One of these days I'll nut up and get laser'd.

These:

I have really good depth/close vision but a really nasty astigmatism. When I am in the trees, unless I have 3-4min to acclimate I am virtually blind. Popping in and out of the trees is a death sentence depending on my speed. the new glasses perfectly fit my head and don't move.

As for full face and glasses, you gotta do what you gotta do. If I can go faster looking like a tard, so be it. I'll let the cool guy behind me tell me how stupid I look when he catches up.

i wear this

with these inside

best glasses for riding ever. they dont move at all. stay really put.

am on my 3rd set of frames in 2 years, since i keep breaking them (sitting on them and such).

kinda pricey ($450 for frame, clip on and lenses) but well worth the money. havent find anything better. the frames are $130, and since the lenses are suspended, they go a very good job at protecting them in the event of a crash.

My doofus gear has all arrived:

These passed the living room test. We shall see how they do on the trails.... Anyone know where I can get Iridium lenses cheap?

Got these for XC. Glasses and full face don't work. Got 'em in transition.

Gosh being a blindy-blindo is expensive...

As a Canadian you have unfair advantage. If you lack something witty to say you can always post a relevant Kids in the Hall video. And since every possible skit they ever did is online, you have an incredible resource to compensate for your lack of imagination. Where as I have to actually think of something myself and take the chance that it may or may not be humorous and relevant. This my friend is why billions of Muslims Hate you and your Band the Tragically Hip.

Bah, this is what I want to do, but unfortunately I think my RX is too strong for any of the 8-base curve (wrap-around) lenses. At least that's what I've been told.

And it it a widely held belief that i resemble Gord Downie more than my brother. (Even more than Dave matthews)

You should be careful. I think I have already conveyed my Hatred for you. I have actual reasons for my hatred for you where as your brother I just strongly dislike him. I think that is partly because If he pisses me off there is not much I can do about it. I am not about to drive to Vancouver and take a dump on his doorstep. In a fitful rage I would easily make it up to Montreal and crap in your pool, doorstep, hood of your car....
