do we have to have a USAC membership in order to race the super d? I plan on trying to qualify in cat 2 for the US nat'l DH at Beech, but I would like to race cat 1 in the super d..is that allowed?

USA Cycling doesn't look at Super D as Gravity or XC. Therefore you can race in either your gravity or XC category...your choice. If your license for XC is Cat. 1 then your good to run Super D as a Cat. 1. If you don't have a license we can still put you in Cat. 1 but you won't receive any points and you'll be removed when the results are sent to USA Cycling. Hope this helps!

Haven't seen any new information anywhere about the Super D on August 20. Is it still a go? How long is the course? Does it run down trail 6 only or is there more added to it? I would like to try it and I have a few friends who are interested and I would like to let them know some more about it, but there is not much information to be had other than categories, entry fees, and time schedule. Would love to find out more about the course itself and the length of it. I have ridden trail 6, but have never done a Super D and am curious to know how long the race course will be so I can be prepared.

Hey guys, sorry for the delayed response...been super busy. Everything is still on track for the 20th. The course is about 1.5 miles in length. The course includes the majority of trail 6 plus some of the core trail. We are working on the course tomorrow & Sunday so hopefully be able to finish most of the work this weekend.

We may add one additional jump at the very end because we've got one mud puddle that will not dry up. The jump would just be temporary so we'll put it in at the last minute and remove afterwards. The bigger table we had near the end of the course will not be built back but we plan to put something at the top that should offset it.:thumb:

The fastest time we've recorded was Herndon a coupe of years ago with 2:47 or 48.

Again sorry for the delayed response. Thanks Cecil for giving me a call!

Im thinking about racing this event but wanted to get a little more clarity as to the type of race it is. I'm no XC racer at all. I have never raced before, would this be a good first?Would a Ibis Sl be ok on the course?

there is some footage in this vid of the 2007 super d race course and, according to a conversation with matt, i don't think it will be changed much. the vid only has a small section of the course but at least you can see what kind of trail it is...flowy and fast (if it's dry). so yes, this is the PERFECT course for your first race and your Ibis will be just fine.

Dark mountain is between the 1:14-2:00 mark on the video.

Hey you guys! This will be my first mtb race but Ive raced bmx my whole life so I think Ill do alright. I only really have two questions and Ill try to figure everything else once I get there.

What address could I plug into my gps to get where Ill need to park?
About how long will they racing part of the event last? (Ive really got to roll out by 3:30... preferably earlier.)

Thanks

This address is to the Visitor's Center (499 Reservoir Road, Wilkesboro NC 28697). You'll see yellow BMCC signs on your way in which will guide you to Dark Mtn.

Our goal is to start at high noon. We're expecting 50-60 races so figure the first run will be over with by 1pm or so. We'll probably start the second run around 1:30pm and hope to have results posted by 2:45pm, awards around 3pm.

With your BMX background I think you'll really like the course. See ya on Saturday!

Matt....can you create a "Scantily clad Clydesdale" class? I feel so much faster when I race in my speedo but it would look silly unless I was racing in a specific class for it ;)

I checked back here daily after my last post, but then got bummed that I had no reply and probably stopped checking right before the update and missed all the new info and thought the race was not happening. I even heard through the grapevine this week that there wasn't much going on with it. And the condition of the trail 2 weeks ago when I went out to practice made me believe it. Really bummed I missed out. I work weekends so I need to plan pretty far out to get off. Really really bummed there was not more advance info available for someone not really in the race scene. Really wanted to race today :(
