There was a huge news report on all the "damage" caused by an unsanctioned jump park in the woods. When they talked to people, everyone said "they just need a place to do it right". There is a jump park in Beaverton, one in Forest Grove, and another in Cornelius. If there were half a many dirt jump parks as there were skate parks, it wouldn't be an issue.

Perhaps they will manage to knock down/run over a small child or elderly person in their path or run over somebody's dog that is being walked.
lulz

Also how did they decide on that video?

Chicks on bikes shredding in the woods isn't destruction and disregard of nature and our families.

exactly JD. illegal trails are created because people want to build and ride. If given a place to do it legally the trails can be made safer as well as built to withstand holding up to the elements instead of possibly causing major errosion, etc.

Wow... that website is a bunch of propaganda BS. MTN bikers and BMXers usually do an good job of taking care of the trails they ride. That group sounds like a bunch of old farts with nothing better to do than ruin a good thing.

I guess I'm lucky, we just have to line things with boulders so the ATVs and Jeeps (which are super illegal in the state forest) don't chew the faces off everything.

That video isn't helping their cause at all. Those girls looked to be having a blast at tame speeds and in total control. And I didn't see any vegitation or wildlife harmed.

the harm was done when the trail was built.....

it's ok to make a path to walk on, to kill whatever plants are in the way, but if you ride a bike on the same type of path you are the devil! (or something along those lines)

Fvcking Baby Boomers. I can't wait until they're all dead.
HEY! I'm a baby boomer.

I'm also female and it makes me damned proud that they chose a video featuring awesome females in their anti-mtb site.:weee: I wish I could ride like those girls!

Seriously though, this kind of opposition is sad and small-minded, but it happens all the time in all kinds of areas. Typical NIMBY (not-in-my-backyard) behavior that sometimes gets taken to the extreme of NOPE (not-on-planet-earth).

this kind of opposition is misguided concern and incorrect information at best, but delusional paranoia, blatant propaganda and lies, and outright hatred at worst.

Jen, unfortunately I would hazard a guess to say that you are the exception and not the rule! (PS, Mo says hi!)

EDIT: Wowza on the cigarette reference re: 'influencing the 'yout' with all that bike jump stuff!

Yeah, when the BMX'rs run out of vegetation to crush near the jumps, they will be forced to look for more EVIL vegetation to obliterate... just bc they hate it!!:butcher:
Look, there is a plant right over there... AHHHH... it is coming straight for us!! Kill it!!

It has been brought to my attention that the video on said site was shot by and is the property of a promenent NW mountain biker.

RM legal council: What is the course of action other than a kind cease and desist request?

Unauthorized rebroadcast of a trademarked video?

Send them the cease and desist letter first. Explain that they are, without permission either written or implied, using a copyrighted and privately held video to further their agenda. As it is not specifically for "academic use," which is one of the few ways around copyright or trademarked material, and as it is being used for political and financial gains, that they are in a highly actionable position.

They'll hopefully tell you to go screw yourself.

Sue for copyright infringement and ask for damages. Triple specific, along with any punitive and compensatory damages that the judge might deem fit.

This is why I should have become a lawyer. There is no more effective, nasty, and complete way to fvck with someone than legally.
