And this was such an easy one too!! All he had to do was say no. Nothing to get through congress. Just personal preference. Say no. I am the boss. Too bad for you.

If he can't do that then he's really...I don't know what.

...and why isn't Boehner running for pres? He doesn't appear to be a religious crazy. Not saying he'd be any good.....but he'd likely beat Obama.
Because why the hell would you want to be president. Its the most thankless, stressful, pain-in-the-ass job in the government.

I know Obama is trying to take the high road and whatnot. But seriously. He needs to go Samuel L Jackson Superfly TNT. The time to be nice is over.
Maybe it's to avoid looking like an obstiant Tea partier. By and large people are sick of DC not working and playing well with others, and I'm sure Barry doesn't want to reinforce that image.

The Democrats have become the Republicans and the Republicans went fvcking crazy. Obama seems to back way off anytime he might be able to help people instead of big business and rich donors.

So instead, he moves it to Thursday and puts NBC in a no win situation. That's opening night for NFL, so what's NBC to do? Show football and never get in the White House again or show the President on TV and endure the wrath of the viewership and the sponsors?

And why would you leave Speaker to run for President? Who really weilds more power locally?

I'm all for that. But at a certain point you have to stand up for yourself.

I'm about as compliant and compromise-seeking guy you'll ever meet. And even I can't get over how he's folding like a house of cards 100% of the time.

And as I said, this was purely a symbolic one. (No real consequences). He could have stood his ground. being a leader (of any sort), means standing up every once in a while and asserting yourself. You do have to be the alpha dog now and then.

I mean really....who says to the president, "mmmm yyyeah....can you come back later? We're kinda busy".....and then what president says, "Oh...ok....sorry. I'll come back later".

I totally agree with Obama's intentions. But he is giving his opponents too much credit. A good leader can also assess the situation he's in and react accordingly. He keeps hoping that everyone will take the high road and whatever. But time and again, that is not the case. So how many times will he let it happen?

As they say:

Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.

i was thinking something along those lines. in spite of a perceived or actual "misstep", i think he showed class, humility, and leadership that's rarely demonstrated inside the beltway.

republicans look like a bunch of whinging tart tossers when they make much ado about nothing

nfl? srsly? get over yourself

Not to sound like a broken record, but I would argue that characteristics like the above are MUCH more Christian than say the stuff the pontificating mouth breathers Bachmann and Perry spout off.........

i can't stand that guys picture, and honestly a lot of what he writes, but for some reason i keep clicking his stupid links. it's probably the howard stern effect - i can't stand it so much i gotta click it to further infuriate myself.

honestly i don't think him moving a speech is really all that big of a deal. the building wouldn't even be prepped, its mainly logistics. i think the only thing here is that a bunch of staffers got all excited about a speech and through a date out to the press without making sure it was cleared first. Those responsible have been sacked.

Yeah, I voted for Obama because I hated where our country went under Bush 2. Imagine my surprise when it kept going the same damn direction. So much for Hope, Change, and that joke of a Nobel Prize.
What makes it even worse is that I have to vote for him again next electron because I don't want a bible-toting, mouth-breathing, psychopathic nutjob for pres.

BTW, is there a possibility that Obama moved the speech as a common courtesy, not as a capitulation to the Evil One?

I think he tried to look tough by scheduling his speech on the night of a GOP debate.
Unfortunately, they know he's a total pussy at heart, called him on it and made him the fool.

Ummm, most do realize that the President can't just show up and speak at the Capitol, right? He gets invited to give the state of the union, and must receive permission to address a joint session. The Speaker runs the house and it's his or her prerogative to say yes or no. Albeit, it is mostly respectful of the office of Prez to say yes, however not required.

I don't think he rolled over, just showed himself to be a more mature person for the public by picking his battles.

I personally can't wait to hear this jobs plan, when a. it's not his role or job to create jobs, except in his administration and b. justify creating jobs when he demanded a 30% cut in the federal workforce.

Guess putting brothers on the road holding the stop and slow sign is cheaper than hiring logistics and engineering specialists.
