Probably some great closeout deals on 2011 stuff to be had in the near future, especially 888 Ti's.

If fox decides to go with their USD fork Id say Dorado as the 40s resale price will drop by then. Was never a fan of zoke characteristic though didnt try anything newer.

USD fork? Fill me in

40 is cheaper than a dorado for me at least, but thats not deciding factor. Mainly quality. Which blows faster. which has better internals, etc

And Zoke same here. Havent tried anything newer

The 888's and Dorado's are both reliable as hell. Good seal systems, open bath, not much to F up.

I can't say enough good things about my 888, the 2010s and 2011s are amazing. I've ridden friends race tuned RC2Cs and WCs and can say the 888 beats them every which way except for the weight. I would say out of the box my 888 has the best small bump compliance I have ever felt in a fork. I've also yet to feel it bottom harshly, though I regularly use all the travel.

Best part of all though, is the fact that you don't need to pull it apart all the damn time to rebuild it.

The Dorado we have has been in use about 1 year now. SOme very fast riders on it over very rough terrain. It is still working flawless! The fork feels better than the 2011 40 and 2010 Boxxer WC for sure. Have no saddle time on the 888's so I cannot compare the two. The Dorado we have has over 200K vertical feet on it easy. It is up in Whistler right now!

I just spent a week at Whistler on my Dorado.

Aside from the air valve being a bit wonky it was perfect for 6 days. By the 6th day my hands were shot. Not sure if it was the 5+ garbo runs everyday. For the most part the fork felt amazing. My buddy's Boxxer was running so hot the seals were melting and sticking to the stanchions.

Glad to hear good things at about the 888 and dorado. 888 will be my second option. I just do not like how it looks... at all. the decals and the stancions color are just ugly to be honest. thats my only hatrid point on them

Plus if you ask me dorados are like sratchprof. they have stancions gaurds so nice they are proteted from the rocks and crashes that most stancions would take headon
And the lowers on most forks take loose rocks all the time, but the "lowers" on dorados are up higher making loose rock hits harder. Thats my opinion

And when you said USD I wasnt sure what you meant. The inverted fork design is what you meant correct? I saw it at the Open. Looks nice. But i wouldnt want to be on the first line of them because of the fact it is a new product and may have flaws to work out

I have never ridden with a 888. Rumor Has it they will be doing Colored stancions. If thats the case I may get some
I don't think that's happening if I remember my inside sources correctly. Maybe as a custom 1-off thing, but unlikely to be mass market. But you guys should keep your eyes out for 2011 888 Ti's on sale soon.

I've ordered a 2012 888 WC, so that's what i'd recommend.

I had lots of time on a 2011 Boxxer WC - it's ****. Service every two days of riding to keep it feeling OK. Just OK though. I can't understand how regular joes (NOT the denizens of this website) get by with them.

I've also had time on a 2011 Dorado Pro - this blows the Boxxer out of the water. Sensitive, supple and no nitceable steering flex (i'm 185 in gear).

The 2011/12 888 felt great, on a buddies bike, weighs what a 40/dorado does AND has a spring inside - unlike the Dorado.

TBH if i'd got the Dorado at the start of the season, that may have swayed me to Manitou. But i'd already pulled the trigger on the 888, so it just came too late.

Color should definitly be the deciding factor in what bike you choose. Its better to have a matching bike than one that rides good

Look at it like I have heard great things about both my backup would be if it matches. I'd like to try the 888 but it's really ugly so Id go with a dorado. My idea is complicated but logistical in my head. Hard to explain to sum it up

Both are good choices and we've had Marzocchi as a team sponsor in the past and they've always had good service and support. Currently we have Manitou which is part of Hayes bicycle group for the last five years and their support is also good and they make a quality product that can take some hits and keep ticking. At the end of the day, I'd go with the Dorado over the 888 as far as racing goes. Anything FR or "video style" gaps I'd go with the 888.

sounds, as if you described my BOS Idylle. :D

i cannot recommend this fork high enough. i'm riding one since february this year, no servicing, nothing to complain about, works incredibly well, best fork i've owned so far (this means, of the more recent products: '07 Fox 40, '08 Boxxer Team, '11 Boxxer WC), although the '08 Boxxer Team was also fantastic.
if you fancy more dials, there's still the RaRe version, but the std. Idylle does it's job unbelievably well.

i would go with the 40, the new inverted damper ones are reliable, the kashima skf seals thingy works and they arent stupidly expensive and heavy as a Bos :D

3,2kg are heavy now? the idylle in europe is cheaper then a 40 btw...
Well it is. An open bath avy carted boxxer wc is <2.7kg and the new chasis is much stronger than the old boxxer. If you want to build a light bike it is an obvious choice. I think all the companies should have no problems with going under 3kg.

different kind of forks. at least try to compare similar ones. the bos forks still use coil springs, no ti like the 40. so a 40 with coil springs would be in the same range as a bos, that was the point i wanted to show...

and to the boxxer wc /w avy cart, i prefer my 888 ti /w chunked crowns and avy cart over this every time, thank you very much...

(and i'm still under 3kgs with stem...)

What is the weight of your 888 ti without chunked? Also I compare them because both are intended for the same use. I agree the 2010 solo air is a bit bad but they are still both dh forks so they are similar for me. Of course if I had the cash for bos Id seriously think about it and maybe try to use an air spring my friend is prototyping now to get the weight down.

btw. those chunked crowns are awesome. Have one on my bike right now and Im beyond stoked. It looks like we ride almost the same fork, just in a bit different package.

According to the Marzocchi site:

-Marzocchi 888 evo v2: 3269g

-Marzocchi 888 evo ti v2: 2990g

Now with Boxxer direct mount standard :)

Edit: Seems like the new 888s are even lighter than the Boxxer R2C2 (3009g). That makes it an easy one for me...
I mean 19g's are 19 g's ;)

2800$! I will never own that fork
Our local distro has the regular idylle for ~ 1600$

Not to mention do not compare euro prices to us. It has been mentioned that **** is more expensive here. A boxxer wc goes over 2k$ by quite a bit.

As for chunked crowns. It equates to having a 50 or 70g stem (cant remember properly) and it is the best fitting part Ive had for a while.

Ive been running a bos for the last 2 months and its amazing. Id highly recommend it over all of the alternatives. I got a killer deal on one so the price wasnt an issue for me. That said for what the euro price of a 40 is the idyle rare that I have is well worth the extra. I was riding a 2010 boxxer team and yeah its a little heavier but the plushness and extra grip mean. I dont have to lift the front wheel as much as i can just turn and go to where i want to go rather than having to pop to change lines. Overall i couldnt be more impressed with them. That said if your in Canada or the USA dont get them. If you have any service issues your going to be in trouble as there is no one to service them for you. My choice after the bos would be the dorado. The 888s seem pretty impressive too but ive not got to try them out properly and anyone i know using them is very happy with them. Boxxers require alot of tlc to get the most out of them. Im not mad on 40s but they seem to be the cool fork to have. Ive tried a good few sets and always couldnt wait to get back on my boxxers as I just dont seem to like the feel of them.
