I saw a thread on here a while back about the 40 but cant find it anymore.

So, I have a 2012 40 on my DHR and it feels a little stiff. I have the purple spring (soft) in it. I weigh about 160 with all my gear on.

I havent touched the settings since i got it, its set the way Fox sets em before shipping.

I feel like it should soak up more of the rough stuff than it is. Instead of soaking it up, it kinda throws the front tire around.

Any suggestions?

How long have you had it? Mine took a few sessions of riding to break in.

Back off the high speed compression? I don't know what stock settings are but I think the new 40's have a fair bit more compression damping than the old ones so at 160lbs you won't need alot of it dialled on

Maybe try tuning it? No telling what the stock settings are...
Also, my 40 was feeling a bit stiction'y at first, figured it was break-in time. A good amount of rides it still felt like it had a good amount of stiction. Rebuilt it, soaked the foam rings in Fox Float fluid while I was into it, and it's great now.

I raced twice with it and been to a bike park once. Its still pretty new
I'd give it one or two more sessions of riding. If you still feel like it has too much stiction, you may have to lube the foam ring and seals like fred.r mentioned above.

Fox's always feel better than factory after a lowers service. Get yourself some slick-honey and 10wt and do it!!! you'll need to know how anyway. :thumb:

After two rides, the fork will be broke in.
I'll throw you a bone. Set the fork compression and rebound in middle position 10-11 clicks out from from all the way in. Can't remember how many clicks rebound, just count how many clicks are available and divide by two.
If you are as a going fast and it feel like your losing traction, three issues can cause this;
1. High Speed Compression- Too hard.
2. Rebound- Too much. (Suspension packing up)
3. Tire pressure- Too hard.

Good Luck.

Yeah it will definitely take a few more rides than that.

The 2012 fork feels amazing once broken in, also make sure you only service it with the new Fox GREEN oil - keeps them buttery.
