Shimano ICE tech?

Looks flexy. And pricy... I run Shimano hydros on both my mountain bikes but I would never run a shimano rotor. I have Hayes on the slalom bike and Avid on the DH bike. Save your money and stick with Avid

I love me some avid rotors... but they aren't really the opposite of flexy.

Haven't tried them myself, but all I hear is how "amazing" they are. I guess they really do reduce fade issues well, but I've never really had fade "issues" with my Shimano brakes.

Guess I need to see if there's a difference.

Can't say if the rotors alone will make a big difference. I can say that the XTR trail brakes with finned pads and ice rotors are now my favorite brakes ever. (Over the years I've used lots of different brakes from shimano, avid, and formula.) Great feel (IMO) and consistent performance, even on long steep descents with much brake dragging. I recently did a tour across the Alps and they were fantastic. Glad to see Shimano finally nail it with their new brakes.

(Some friends of mine have the XT versions and they love them too. I haven't used them yet.)

Mine are a few years old. But my Hayes are definitely stiffer than the avids. And probably a little cheaper too..
