Is there anything to the Shimano rotors with the ICE tech they're touting these days? I need some new rotors, the old ones are giving up the ghost.

Anything to this new deal, or should I just get some new Avids?

Haven't tried them myself, but all I hear is how "amazing" they are. I guess they really do reduce fade issues well, but I've never really had fade "issues" with my Shimano brakes.

Guess I need to see if there's a difference.

Can't say if the rotors alone will make a big difference. I can say that the XTR trail brakes with finned pads and ice rotors are now my favorite brakes ever. (Over the years I've used lots of different brakes from shimano, avid, and formula.) Great feel (IMO) and consistent performance, even on long steep descents with much brake dragging. I recently did a tour across the Alps and they were fantastic. Glad to see Shimano finally nail it with their new brakes.

(Some friends of mine have the XT versions and they love them too. I haven't used them yet.)
