* In addition to the biking and adventure activities there is The Tiki Bar @ Spring Mountain which is located at the base of the mountain on the Lodge Side. Open daily from 4:00pm until midnight. It’s an outdoor party with food, drinks, music, fake palm trees and bell-ringing Hurricane drinks. Visit their website at www.tikibarpa.com

Was up at Launch last weekend riding the race course with Jason Beckley
and Logan Mulally. Course is going to be alot of fun, very technical but fast with a big booter and jumps at the finish. Everyone was loving it will be a fun weekend with free camping and freeriding on the other trails for racers.
Weather looks fantastic;

Logan Mulally on the unfinished Launch course this is a partial but looks great!! Thanks Guys!! Also here is what Jason Beckley had to say
....
"I spent the day riding at Spring Mt. and the course is super sick. Fast flowy and technical. I think people are really going to like the course. See you next weekend."

a vast improved video from the last course preview vid. but my impression based on the vid / criticism still remains. the course appears the flattest of all the GES courses to date. Video does tend to flatten things, but the amount of pedalling that was done by logan on the course would suggest both lack of pitch and technical terrain. It also was probably a fairly laid back run, about a 1:40 based on the video. So 100% efforts at race pace is gonna be sub 1:30 at least.

i wanna stress that GES runs a great race series. registration/check usually runs smoothly, and the competition/racer participation is good. i'm just perplexed at the choice of Launch. It's hard to justify $75 for the registration fee when this is the best of what they have to offer. I need more for my racing dollar.

I would humbly suggest that you look at Beech Mtn and Timberline as potential additional venues for next season.

Timberline and a couple of other new venues, we try to mix it up long, short vertical and everything in between. so we are presenting everyone to show they are fast on all courses/tracks. The video is not telling how steep some sections are but if we can continue to offer diversity it helps your racing career or lifestyle, the GES is everything mixed it, again for diversity. One of 5 criteria USAC looks at amongst different regions to race in to show that diversity

Logan's video wasn't the entire course - there is a beginning section with a gap drop at and also another section at the end that he didn't ride that has a couple of big jumps. Yes, not the steepest and not alot of vert but couple of sections steeper than it looks and quite technical. Definitely made the most of whats there plus race entry includes freeriding on the rest of the park and there are some really fun trails with some big and technical features. At the end of the day it should be fun and more than worth the entry fee.

Not about someone "buying" a race - its about having races at different types of mountains/venues/terrain and giving some support to a new bike park being developed. Small vert doesn't mean you can't have a good course thats fun to race just as big vert doesn't necessarily guarantee a good course.

This course has no boring spots, no long pedal sections, and is NOT FLAT. It's a really fast course. It has plenty of jumps and drops and possibly the hardest and steepest rock garden. After Saturdays practice you will love the course.

Well that seals it for me...I was bringing my two friends who were gonna race their first DH race at GES this weekend... I thought it would be a good course for them to get started on ....but no way will I bring them to such a steep technical course....

After seeing all the smiling faces on Sunday...You got ripped off by staying at home!

That place is super fun...challenging with a super fast lift.

Nice Work Launch...you built a killer course. :thumb:

Sometimes you need to see/experience something to believe it.

Can't wait for next year! :)

It was an awesome weekend these guys built a killer course - very challenging and had one of the most tech sections I think of any GES course this year. It was far from flat and proved that you can have a short course that is both fun and challenging. The guys at Launch did a fantastic job with what they had to work with. Really surprised alot of the riders. Well worth the entry fee which included free camping and free riding on their other trails which have some awesome features. Plus the owners of the mountain were really stoked and supportive of the event and props to PMBA for their support and providing free breakfast for the riders.
A great job and look out for some cool events planned there for next year.
