How does this place compare to Plattekill? I am deciding between the two this weekend. Plattekill is probably my favorite spot in the Northeast but I like the look of Jiminy's trails from these head-cam videos.

Easiest way to describe it; "Plattekill without the shale."

Plattekill has more trail variety and is more on the technical spectrum.

It's different. Plattekill is burlier in terms of pure rockiness, but Jiminy gets just as steep or steeper in areas. There's more dirt at Jiminy, so there's more room to get up to speed without knocking your elbows off. The vibe at plattekill is infinitely better though, beers in the parking lot etc. etc. Jiminy is a family place and you have to be good when the kiddies are around. Jiminy has a restobar at the bottom where you can grab some decent wings and beer. The lift is faster and the mountain is higher, but the lift will knock your ultra-light beer can frame around, so it may get dented. Plattekill is slow and safe. I love the trails there but many of them tend to be straight shots down the face. Plattekill has more variety but sometimes you have to ride the same trail 18 times to get to one of the infinite other ones.

I think it's worth a shot for anybody in the northeast, but it may or may not be better depending on how you look at it.

That's a great help, thanks man. I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets lost on the myriad trails in P'kill. That place is like a maze. I don't think I have ever taken the exact same route down the hill twice.

Curious on something. How would you compare Platty to Whiteface. My 2 favorites.

First time I have ever heard those words used together!

eh? i'm saying the lift is slow, but your bike won't fall off.

Jiminy is real quick for its elevation, but it'll bang the **** out of your ride if you don't hold it. It's not so bad on a six year old beater, but with all the fancy pajama wearing plastic bike riding fruits on this forum, it may dent or damage whatever nine hundred dollar whoozeywhatzit you just had to have to drop .0004 seconds off your time.

Plattekill's trails are not slow nor safe, that's for sure.

I've been up that lift 400+ times and never had an issue. I've seen it happen to other people though but not in a few years.

tis true. It never happened to me, but I used to ride a steel BMW and while I currently ride and aluminum sunday, they have re-padded the lift to reduce the chance of damage. Still, I like to make sure my bike is the first one on the lift, so that by the time the chair of four comes up to the top, I don't have to watch it bash off the side of the chair. No damage is good...no CHANCE of damage is better.

I'm willing to bet 1 wipeout at 25mph will do 10000X more damage to the bike than 1,000,000 trips up the lift would do.

damn geena...I'm not particularly worried about my bike...it's ****ty anyways. However, somebody on a 28lb session may have more of a concern, as they see their 9.8k$ rig bounce off the side of the chair. It's worth noting...not all of us can afford custom paint jobs on our turners...

It's POWDERCOAT. Get it right.

Ironically I got it powdercoated because the Mt. Snow lift destroyed the old paint job.

woke up a bit late today, so I guess it's a good day to see what's happening at Jiminy Peak. Hopefully it is as clean as everyones says. Used to ride there on a regular basis as it's only about 40 min from the house.

Goal today is to find a suitable race course that ends away from the kiddie stuff. Any suggestions? Are the trails marked with numbers or names anymore?

Letters, I think. My ride review has a trail map.

I think G to k or l would be the way to go. G starts very close to the lift, is steep but not as hard as the far right trails, and branches off under the lift back to the left for some nice single track like lower mtsnow. You can take k or l after that, they both are nice, but they point towards the kiddie area so you'd have to figure out a way to head back, which shouldn't be too hard. I think far left would be too shallow, and far right too steep.

Thanks Guys!! I'll check those first. By looking at the map a few trails have disappeared. It seems so strange being leaving at 11 am to go DHing.

I hope Jiminy Rocks today !! :thumb:

I've never seen a bike fall off the big lift at Jiminy, and my fancy powdercoat seems OK after riding the lift there a bunch of times. I have seen bikes knock around a bit near the top, but I'm sure my poor line choice has/will do more damage than the lift.

Either way, Jiminy was awesome when I first started riding and it looks like the trail crew has everything in good working order again. I'll have to get up there before the end of the season, it was always a good time (even when the trails turned into bottom bracket deep mud and they didn't stop the lift).

did you find something suitable?

I've never seen a bike
look, this has been beaten to death, and if you feel OK with it, then good for you. Still, there are other people that may have more concerns for their frame than you or I, and it's worth mentioning to those people that the way the bikes are carried on the lift is not the most secure compared to other places. Those people should take the time to ride the lift with their bike to keep it from bashing around. Everyone else can forget about it. Got it?

Wait, so has someones bike has fallen off that lift

Aside from Highland, I think Jiminy has the only other lift system where my bike doesn't get scratched or scuffed up on the lift. I mean it doesn't look pretty, but that doesn't seem to matter.

Had a great time riding there Saturday riding with scientists and punkers! Trails keep getting better and better - glad they did some reroutes on the steep side. Some of that fall line stuff was getting washed out.

This sunday there is going to be a Collegiate Race out there. There is also an open class. For $15 race entry and what ever the stupid cheap lift tickets are you can have a fun time racing.
The course was semi-taped last weekend and it was mint, see ya Sunday:thumb:

the race is Sunday correct? and are they opening the big lift early for this event this weekend?

lift tickets are $26/day
