Pretty sure it's like a 2 minute course too!
It's 2am and we've had a small thunderstorm and significant rainfall for 2 hours now. Radar looks like we'll have a few more hours of it as well.
It's already a pretty physical track, this is going to really amplify the importance of solid preparation.

Seems like a really low turnout for pro, no? 11 seconds though, not surprised. I think he's not out to win, but ruin everyone's life in the process. So pro.
actually, if you look at his WC season, 11 seconds over riffle isn't that dominating. It just happens that riffle is the 2nd best american right now.
So, Neko Mullaly threw down the fastest lap of the day. The conditions were very friggin similar(I was hiking up and down the track) with only 30 riders in between them.

Gwin crashed and finished 2nd... I don't think there is much to even talk about. Stoked that Logan won. It always comes down to who can stay on the bike, but there aren't any others Americans who can run with gwin if he stays on the bike.
Gwin had a monster crash and sailed to flat ground. He missed a spear of a rock by mere inches. Very glad he was even able to get up!
Right. The point is that a Neko v Riffle deatmatch would highly favor the 18 year old from PA.
It's a shame that we don't have a national series where we have elites and jr's racing together- on both the mens and womens side for DH there are a few Juniors who are faster than most of the pros. With how small our fields are these days we'd have much deeper racing if we had more oppourinites to bring everyone together. Grt/ESC/ges/fluidride cup are all strong and vibrant but gosh, it sure would be nice to gather the tribe more often and smoosh our talent together to bring up our game.
Things have been getting better every year in terms of creating top athletes. Putting some more pressure on the kids, and more presssure on the adults not to get schooled would just make everything better. Racing is just too darn expensive these days for much travel, especially for most juniors so we'll probablly be stuck with our mostly regionalized race series until we pull stuff together enough to bring in actual financial support.

You saw it too? We were right next to the crash and he was up and back on the bike before anybody could react! It looked like he caught a hidden root with his front wheel and just got dumped off.
I was scratching my head because he came down off the rocks and it looked like he had already lost it before he had touched the mud and roots. As if he clipped a pedal on a rock up top or something.
As for my run, a mechanical shut down my hopes and dreams.
He came in fine, fast as isht. But on that first little drop in after the road he hit a decent sized root that looked like it had been covered in mud until he hit it. Bike went left, Gwin went right. I would've had a picture but I was fumbling between a phone, a beer and two cowbells and couldn't get the camera app going fast enough.
East vs West flamebait here:
lol remember last year when the east coast vs west coast debate raged, and the three excuses were:
oh, its west coast conditions, but wait till you west coast guys have to ride the east coast conditions, the east coast will be on top
and
oh, its cause its on the western half, the east coasters couldn't make it that far out
and
jason memmelgnar is way faster then duncan riffle and deserves the sponsorship, not riffle, and riffle suckxz nuts!
those were funny. Especially in light of how it was muddy sloppy "east coast conditions and rockxs" and the top 7/10 were western US. and riffle yet again beat memmelgnar (no offense to memmelgnar, awesome rider and person that he is)

As promoters and riders We all need to work together. Congrats to all the riders and spectators who traveled to NC Great Work.
Neko actually went BEFORE the pros so he would have had worse conditions and they did race the same course.
Hmm I must disagree. The top four were all top worldcup racers and so they should be at the top, after that the top guy was from New Hampshire. The rest of the top ten was 3 east and 3 west.

East coast class winners 12
West coast class winners 2
Midwest class winners 1
Sundays amateur/pro races
East coast class winners 12

maybe we will have more west coast riders here next year and you can do your best to win but the odds are stacked against you........Let the 2012 smacktalk begin!!
I didn't read past where you suggested that the top 3 were all WC racers and should be discounted - wtf? why? shouldn't the east be just as capable of producing fast riders? is it something that the trails lack maybe? Or is there a more competitive vibe on the west coast? or some combination?
You are asking questions that NOBODY gives a $hit about except non-participants like yourself.
Racers from both coasts were out there in ankle deep mud sliding sideways all weekend and grinning and high fiving one another at the bottom.
Real racers know that talent rises to the top no matter where you are from.
Gwinn and Neko were the two fastest racers on the hill this weekend because of a combination of talent and hard work not because of where they were born. Only couch clowns and keyboard peckers think otherwise.
Focus on something more interesting.
(And props to Mitch, Logan and Jill as well for kicking ass this weekend.)

LOL... I get your point, but also I was thinking to myself, Wow.. Mud... haven't had to ride in that in a few years. I bet I would suck till I got used to it.

Wow, I was just messing with you. I guess I struck a nerve with the statistics on the east coast domination of the event. Again the fastest guy not getting paid to ride was from the east coast and the fastest overall time was from an east coast rider who would wave won if it were not for an age limit rule. After all we are racing the clock.
