There have been a few local cities/counties interested in building bike parks/dirt jumps. I've been trying to get on the board meetings and design teams so that I can make something happen for bmx/dirt jumpers.

One of the big problems is, the people I interface/deal with are all adults who don't have a clue what a dirt jump park should be. They all seem to think jumps/trails need to be in the open on flat land.....

I am looking for public trails like 9th street so that I can have some ammo/information to show these people.

So far, I only have 9th street and our local Greenlake jumps.

Is P.A. Woods legal?

thanks for all your help/suggestions!

In Colorado there are two city-owned parks which are completely awesome:

Frisco Peninsula Bike Park
Valmont Bike Park

The beauty of these spots is that there is a very wide range of difficulty. You want the place to accommodate both 4-year-olds on their push bikes as well as hardcore shredders. At Valmont, there is a progression from extra small to extra large lines. Frisco has easy lines which kids who are fresh off of training wheels can do (look at the pictures on their site) all the way to 35' slopestyle jumps.

If you want communities to support building a park like this, you need to make it a family-friendly place where little kids can have fun too. Also, these spots were designed by professional design companies who followed industry standards for safety. Here's an article which talks about those types of logistics (the article is 6 years old, so there may be newer industry standards out there):

I've been to meetings with City people, and I usually make a binder for whoever is in charge with printouts of stuff like this:

Catty is legal and so is Posh. I have friends involved in promoting public bike parks and private "club" type parks like Posh and Catty. They are working on something like a sanctioning body to make insurance more available and cost effective for clubs. Right now the insurance is around $6,000 to $7,000 a year but the goal is to get it lower if the insurance company sells more policies with hopefully 0 claims. I will see these guys at the next jam and see if they are making any headway.

Here are some actual pics of the Fresno jumps. They are in a big city park called Woodward Park. They were initially built by some city employees, basically bmxers who knew someone and have been subsequently laid off, never completely finished and pretty much maintained by myself and a few others.
