Minion DH-R II. Holy crap one ride on the steepest trail I know of and I could barely make it slide even on off-camber corners. I probably shouldn't be divulging much but damn this is THE measure of what a rear DH tire should be.

Conditions were moist soft loam and soft(ish) sand. Believe me there is enough spacing that mud shedding will be a non-issue.

Is it going to be $93 too? Maxxis and Schwalbe's pricing is a huge turn-off for me. But if you got a hook-up I guess it doesn't matter...

I could physically not get the Muddy Mary dual Ply vertstar to mount tubelessly on my Deemax.
Was able to do it easily with the singly Ply variants though.

The dual ply's sidewall was just too rigid and could not get onto that ridge on the inside. Any of you guys able to get the DP MM Verstar on a deemax?

You really made a mistake there, lad. Look what you did, we are now obliged to drown this thread in an orgasm of hating and flaming.

If you are interested in DHR II, please skip to page 17.
Thank you.

In my experience Schwalbe tires don't last nearly as long as Maxxis (comparing soft compound vs. soft compound). And from the performance I think the Maxxis still have a slight advantage over the Schwalbes.

My full intention was to discretely take the subject matter from the DHR2 to talking about Schwalbe's sidewalls. Looks like I achieved my main directive.

The guys that are currently testing the tire are forbiden from talking about it further, though, since the tire is still in the prototype stage.

I thought I'd add a picture:

I also have a question for WP: Have you tried it as a front?

It does look pretty much perfect for a rear. Hope there is some ramping to make it roll faster, can't really tell from the pics.
Dual Excavators have been some of my favourite tires this year for the dry and dusty, steep and loose riding around here, i think i will definitely try a pair of these front and rear. The triple block in the centre looks very Excavatoresque.

I have had good luck with Excavators in terms of grip, especially after trimming down the intermediates to allow the shoulder blocks to generate grip. In that sense, these new DHRs should be superior since they have a pretty open channel.

My hope is that they work a little better on soft/wet dirt. I find the DHF to float on those center blocks a bit, rather than penetrating. This looks slightly more open and the center blocks are not as long as the DHF, bringing it closer in line to a Muddy Mary but with all the benefits of the DHF shoulder blocks for cornering. Good combo! That's why I could see running these front and rear when soft/wet.

I've used the Excavators and although they are quite good, the DHR2 seems to bite better in soft ground. Plus, sticky rubber doesn't hurt, comparing it to Kenda's rubber compound.
