Just received word today from Southeast Regional Coordinator USA Cycling that the Paris Mountain Downhill Race will be the South Carolina State Gravity Championships...and Yes, it will be a 2012 qualifier.

Anything after last weekend will be a qualifier for 2012 Nationals.

I'm debating registering to race.

This would be my first race ever. I've ridden downhill a few times and seem to do alright. And I read somewhere on the website that the youngest to race last year was 17, I'm 15. I think I could use a lot more experience but I'd like to race just for the fun of it.

Nate, just my opinion, but this would be a good first one to run. Not real long, not too gnarly and not high speed. Plus if you are local to GVL or even SC, it would be good to support the local bike scene. My wife's never raced and assuming she can get the time off, she's gonna race to.

Nate, i agree with waterdog. This race is definitely one to get your feet wet with. I received email last week from a dad who's son wants to race. He would be the youngest we have had race. He is 8. Also if your are local to the area you can ride the course and then make your decision. We would love for you to join the race.

I am sure someone will correct me, but I thought I remember someone saying the course drops 400ft???? Somewhere around 1:30 times for the fast folk. Correct me if I am wrong (I know nothing and am somewhat new to the area).

There will be one, maybe two women in the Cat 3 30-39 category. My wife and one of her riding friends. I know my wife will race, not 100% sure about her friend.

See you all on Sat for the trail day.

I am not sure about the elevation loss, an average race time there is in the 2:30 range though, and there is not much pedaling on the course.
And yeah, I am sure that some of the women classes will get combined, but they normally do.

Elevation drop is about 600ish and fastest time set is Gerrit at 2:08. Average times will be around 2:30 to 2:45. Great place to race no matter what!!! Glad to see the race happening again!!!! This time I get to race and sit back and enjoy myself!!!!!

njjerry.... there is Paris, Clemson/Issaquenna, Croft, Pump Track in Traveler's rest. There are more options about 45 min to 90 min north with Dupont, Pisgah, and Bent Creek, but 99% of the mentioned are all XC. In terms of DH, there are places but most tend to keep them to themselves.
