Hey guys, need some help looking for pictures of the tires cuts that were used for the SA world cup. Didn't notice many cuts this year but I remember the first year where they were pretty much running slicks front and back?

I remember seeing one of the riders, Minaar/Peaty I think, running a HR semi slick in the rear. Remember thinking "wont be doing much braking then".

check the RSA thread from the race. pretty sure there were links to vids and pics/discussion of the tire choices somewhere in there.

Sigmound, pictures would be great. trying to see how far they went with the cuts.

'size, couldn't find the thread from the first world cup there. the world cup this year didn't have as extreme cuts as previous years.

I am thinking of cutting down a minion f to be used as a rear tire. cutting down the centre knobs to half their height. should still corner well, the track I am going to use it on doesn't have much braking as a fast rolling tire would help.

Okay, well the reason I ask is Fabien Barel ran spikes, and came fourth I think. Although that was this year, not sure about the previous year.

The reason being he felt they gave grip in the loose dirt and the compromise was worth it. He's a technically knowledgable rider, so it's an interesting choice to have made. Putting the debate regarding potential benefits aside it certainly reminded me to think for myself when it comes to choosing parts. It might not be applicable in this case though.

Running spikes when others are choosing semi-slicks might be because the rider thinks he can gain advantage in cornering and/or late braking whereas the semi-slick guys may be the out of shape (or flat pedal) riders hoping to boost pace on the flatter straights. Just a thought.

High Roller F with a High Roller SS rear. Worked well for one of the clay based tracks we have up here.

Seriously, try and find a Bing Bling (Maxxis stoped making them years ago), the edge almost exactly the same as a minion but they roll much much faster, they rule for what you describe, sooo predictable when they drift too.

If you were in the UK I could sell you one (still have loads of single and dual plys but the dual plys are only any use at Fort william in the UK)

cutting a minion to become bling blingy sounds an awful task to me.

In the Northwest.
I know it might be ridemonkey taboo, but check out the Kenda Happy Medium. Their new RSR compound is a 42 durometer and the tire is perfect for what you describe. I raced them in a really pedally hardpacked track a few weeks ago and they worked great. Really good cornering knobs and it rolled really fast. I believe it is much cheaper than the Maxxis offerings as well.
