that reminds me of the first time I went to a friend's house to pick him up and had never met his GF/family:

*ring doorbell, friend answers door, see girl in the background*
friend: hey, ready to go (closes door behind him)
me: your girlfriend is pretty cute
friend: that's my sister
me: oh.....
friend: she's 14
me:.................oh.......

Just remember your failure as a pet owner is reinforced by each bark or Mmikes child acting up...... If only Steve Jobs invented a DogPad, Syadasti was right he most certainly failed Society. A Society were folks advocate zip ties, a pillow case, and a Lake. Can you offer any Cell Phone buying advice? I would surely follow it as based on your post it would be sound advice.....

lol beagles have one of the most annoying barks eva.

Like others said, exercise works wonders on hyperactive/barking dogs. Beagles were bread for hunting not sitting in a house all day. Come up with games that mimic it's natural behavior.

Try hide and seek. Hide a treat somewhere then make the dog sniff it out. Start by putting the treat in very obvious places till the doggy gets the point. Use a command like "find it" to let the dog know it's time for sniffin.

All that playing/exercise will improve the dog's disposition and trainability but will not always stop the barking. Most people respond to barking dogs by yelling at them. Turns out dogs don't understand yelling very well.

It's easy to train a dog to DO something, it's really hard to train a dog to NOT DO something. The dog probably barks when it is in an excited/agitated/beagle state of mind. You need to do something to snap the dog out of that state of mind. Some people use a loud clap to startle the animal or a spray bottle of water.

Once the dog is out of it's barking mode give it commands to sit and lay down. This should get the dog into a calm state of mind. Once it is calmly laying at your feet give it praise and or treats. This part is important, just yelling or spraying the dog without the follow up of commands and praise will not usually work.

The dog will hopefully learn barking=bad, relaxing=good. You will need to do this many times but your patience should pay off.

Sadly... some dogs just bark a lot. But all the people who are talking about giving it attention are right. Too bad it's a stupid little yappy thing. But read Merle's Door and take the author's wisdom to heart, it might just help you appeciate the little beast.

the beagles not the problem shes very laid back and well trained. what the problem is the little rat dog i first mentioned. the method i used to train my beagle is correction and or being pac leader, not slap the dog put kinda push it along or tap it to get its attention. when ever i try this with the rat i get yelled and the dog gets carried away by my mom or sister because im being "mean". so ive given up with just training it but i just want it quiet.
